Help your credit union grow through ICUL's credit card program

More than ever before, Americans are heeding the call to move their money from big banks. Now that they've moved their money, what do credit unions need to do to keep these new members?

As reported by Callahan & Associates: "Credit unions with credit card portfolios outperform those that don't have credit card portfolios.” These credit unions have higher ROAs, have more services per household and achieve a higher profitability per account. Now is the time to focus on issuing or revamping your credit card program by offering an ICUL Service Corporation Credit Card Program that can help your credit union increase revenue and improve member service.

With retail spending continuing to rise and interest rates on cards offered by other financial institutions continuing to increase, credit cards are becoming a mandatory product offering for credit unions. Your members and potential members are using credit cards – whether it's one offered by a credit union or another financial institution. The difference is that a credit card offered by any other financial institution would not be as beneficial as a card from your credit union.

Here are some interesting facts regarding bank-issued credit cards:

  • Large credit card issuers are yielding more than 15 percent on their card portfolios
  • Last year more than $47 billion was issued in new credit lines
  • More than 300 million consumers still have bank credit card accounts

Contact MnCUN Vice President – Network Service Corporation John Ferstl by email or call (651) 288-5505 to find out more about ICUL Service Corporation and how your credit union can increase revenue, while improving service to members, by offering an ICUL Service Corporation Credit Card Program.

CUMONEY waives $500 implementation fee

Now through May 31, ICUL Service Corporation is waiving the $500 basic implementation fee for its CUMONEY card. Minnesota credit unions can take advantage of this promotion and offer members an affordable Visa travel card. As always, CUMONEY does not charge credit unions an annual fee.

CUMONEY is a low-cost alternative to travelers' checks. The card is accepted anywhere the Visa logo is displayed and it is pre-loaded with value before members travel. If members become short on funds while traveling, the cards are easily reloadable. Also, unlike cash, if a lost or stolen TravelMoney card is reported to the credit union, the remaining unused balance can be transferred to a new card.

In addition, CUMONEY debit cards provide credit unions the opportunity to earn additional revenue. Credit unions receive a retail fee for each card issued, along with ongoing revenue for each active card. In addition, offering this product provides a competitive advantage and cross-selling opportunities. This turnkey program makes activation and administration simple and convenient.

Explore the benefits CUMONEY has to offer your credit union and its members. For more information about this or other products offered by ICUL Card Services, contact MnCUN Director of Business Development Vickie Ganrude by email or at (651) 288-5515.

ICUL Service Corporation, CUNA Strategic Services launch CUMONEY Family Card

Earlier this month, CUNA Strategic Services, in partnership with ICUL Service Corporation, introduced another tool to help credit unions compete – the CUMONEY Family Card. This pre-paid debit card is geared toward teens and serves as an effective payment method and financial education tool.

The CUMONEY Family Card carries the teen’s name and is funded, restricted and supervised by an adult. Parents and other gift-givers have the security of knowing that cards are not directly linked to their accounts and that this product effectively helps their teen learn how to manage money. In addition to the 20 million Visa locations worldwide, the CUMONEY Family Card works at ATMs across the country.

ICUL is the leading provider of pre-paid debit cards to credit unions, providing 2,700 credit unions in 49 states with gift cards, CU TravelMoney, and CUMONEY pre-paid debit cards. Benefits to credit unions include:

  • Additional ongoing revenue;
  • Minimal liability or fraud exposure;
  • Competitive advantage and cross-selling opportunities to your credit union;

Meet your members' travel needs with CU Money

As your members travel this winter to escape Minnesota’s cold weather, equip them with the tools to keep their money safe. With the prepaid Visa TravelMoney debit card, your members can securely spend their money – and earn your credit union additional income.

TravelMoney works just like any ATM/debit card, with one distinct difference – it is pre-loaded with value before members travel. TravelMoney cards are accepted anywhere the Visa logo is displayed, including in-store, online and by the phone. If members become short on funds while traveling, the cards are easily reloadable. Also, unlike cash, if a lost or stolen TravelMoney card is reported to the credit union, the remaining unused balance can be transferred to a new card.

In addition, TravelMoney debit cards provide credit unions the opportunity to earn additional revenue. Credit unions receive a retail fee for each card issued, along with ongoing revenue for each active card.
