Fall Conference registration now open
Credit union professionals and volunteers are invited to attend MnCUN's annual Fall Conference on Sept. 7-9 at Madden's Resort in Brainerd. This weekend event is held at one of Minnesota's finest resorts and provides opportunities for education, networking and recreation.
This year's conference will feature experts presenting on timely credit union topics geared toward both credit union professionals and volunteers. Sessions for credit union professionals will focus on non-interest revenue, measuring board performance and succession plans. Volunteers will be able to attend a Volunteer Achievement Program (VAP) on growth strategies, along with sessions about supervisory committee responsibilities and measuring risk. In addition, the conference will feature general sessions providing insight into the economic forecast and banking ethics.
Credit unions with less than $25 million in assets are eligible to attend Fall Conference at a discounted rate. With the Small Credit Union Discount, credit unions receive one half-priced registrant for every full-priced registrant.
Lodging and meals for Fall Conference are not included in the MnCUN registration fee, and reservations must be made through Madden's by Tuesday, Aug. 7. Attendees must stay at Madden's to participate in the conference. Make accommodation requests early, as rooms are granted on a "first come” basis.

To take advantage of the early bird discount, registration and payment must be received by Tuesday, Aug. 7. The deadline for regular priced registrations is Tuesday, Aug. 21. Archive of Filene webinar on "Building Young Adult Awareness" now available
The archive of the Filene webinar "Building Awareness with the Young Adult Market” is now available online. This webinar is the third of four sessions focused on Filene's Minnesota-specific research on how credit unions can attract and retain younger members.
The third webinar focused on how credit unions can get young adults inside the doors of their organization. The webinar discussed the psychological aspects of marketing to young adults and provided an overview of how to use social media effectively. The recording, along with the webinar handouts, are available on the Gen Y page of the Network website.
Credit union professionals and volunteers are also invited to participate in the fourth and final live webinar in this series. "Using Your Employees to Hone a Young Adult Strategy” will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. This webinar will discuss how to use young employees to build a younger membership at your credit union from the inside out. MnCUN strategic alliances benefit Network & credit unions
Through its strategic alliances, MnCUN's Network Service Corporation (NSC) offers credit unions guidance on finding service providers that offer quality, member-focused products and services. In addition to fulfilling individual credit unions' service needs, these strategic alliances help to provide revenue to the Network.
MnCUN encourages credit unions to consider the NSC's strategic alliance partners when they are seeking a new service provider. Credit unions should conduct due diligence on these and other service providers and choose the organization that is right for their credit union. However, if a strategic alliance company is comparable to another organization, the Network encourages credit unions to choose the strategic alliance. Through this small effort, credit unions support the Network by helping to return revenue to the NSC.

Report financial education presentations by July 6
Does your credit union present financial education seminars to young members or students? If so, be sure to report your presentations to the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB). All presentations made from July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012, may be recorded in this reporting period.
NYIB collects financial education data from credit unions nationwide on presentations made to individuals age 26 or younger. The Network, CUNA and NYIB use the information when speaking to elected officials about the education efforts of credit unions. In addition, NYIB will recognize the top region that demonstrates outstanding performance and support of credit union advocacy at its annual conference on July 30-Aug. 2. In addition, the region will be featured in an article in the online edition of Credit Union Magazine.
The reporting deadline for presentations made during the 2011-2012 school year is Friday, July 6. Be sure to visit the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB) website by this date and record your presentations.
CUNA announces new collaboration initiative website
This week CUNA introduced a new website aimed at assisting credit unions in collaborating with each other. This site will facilitate the collaboration of ideas and initiatives on issues that affect credit unions and guide credit unions in finding solutions when needed.
This resource was developed based on feedback from members of CUNA's Small Credit Union Committee who indicated that lack of collaboration is one of the top issues facing credit unions. These members asked CUNA to develop a way to help member credit unions of all asset sizes more effectively and efficiently work together on common issues.
The collaboration website is a repository of examples of successful efforts and encourages credit unions, leagues and credit union service organizations (CUSOs) to share their stories. Users can join a collaboration listserv, share information about initiatives and read about some of the examples of interesting cooperative efforts that seem to be making a difference. The site also includes links to additional resources such as Credit Union Magazine articles and several Filene studies.
This resource, which is for credit unions of all sizes – not just small credit unions – includes the following features:
- Add Your Collaboration – A place where credit unions can share their collaborative efforts with other credit unions.
- Featured Collaboration Projects – A short collection of various collaboration initiatives that serve as interesting and effective examples of leagues, credit unions and/or CUSOs working cooperatively to solve problems and increase credit union effectiveness in the marketplace.
- White Papers and Articles – Contains resources related to collaboration.
