MnCUN's Fall Conference to feature CU experts

The Minnesota Credit Union Network is excited to announce the speaker lineup for its Fall Conference. Set for Sept. 7-9 at Madden's Resort in Brainerd, this conference features sessions that provide insight into the topics, issues and opportunities currently facing credit unions.

This year's conference speakers include CUNA Senior Economist Bill Hampel, along with credit union experts Tim Harrington, Mark Lynch and John Moreno. During Hampel's session, he will provide credit union professionals and volunteers insight into the economic forecast for 2012 and beyond. Other topics that will be covered include risk management, non-interest revenue, board performance, responsibilities of the supervisory committee and succession plans. In addition, MnCUN's Vickie Ganrude will lead a Volunteer Achievement Program (VAP) session focused on how to grow membership, loans and assets.

Register for Fall Conference today and secure your spot at this premier conference. For more information and to register, visit the Fall Conference page of the Network website.

Deadline near to submit entries for national credit union awards

Don't miss out on your chance to promote the achievements your credit union has accomplished through its unique programs, products and services! There's little more than a week remaining to submit your entries for the annual Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring and Desjardins awards. Take this opportunity to showcase your credit union's dedication to the "people helping people" philosophy.

MnCUN and CUNA are sponsoring these national recognition programs for credit unions, and the deadline to submit entries is Monday, July 16. Full descriptions of the awards programs, as well as submission forms and tips to a winning entry can be found on the National Awards Programs page of the Network website.

Credit unions are encouraged to submit entries for one or all of these awards. Statewide entries must be submitted to the Network office by 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 16. Winning entries will advance to the national competition for judging in September. With questions, contact MnCUN Communications Specialist Kelli Sandhurst (Baxter) by email or call (651) 288-5503.

Filene Minnesota-specific research materials available for download

Recruiting Gen Y members is a top priority for credit unions. To assist credit unions in tackling this problem, this year MnCUN worked with the Filene Research Institute to conduct Minnesota-specific research on how to attract younger members. The results of this research were debuted in April and are currently available for download from the Gen Y page of the Network website.

This resource page contains the deliverables from the research. Credit unions can download the complete report, along with a four-minute video summarizing the research. In addition, archives of webinars focused on specific components of the research are also available online. This webinar series digs deeper into the key elements of the research and provides credit unions tangible ideas on what they can do to attract and retain younger members. The webinar topics include: identifying the young adult challenge, developing Gen Y products and services, and building awareness in the young adult market.

To download these research materials, visit the Gen Y page of the Network website. With questions, contact MnCUN Director of Communications Rachel Anderson by email or by phone at (651) 288-5527.

Seeking new members? Update your CU's profile on aSmarterChoice.org

CUNA's consumer website – called aSmarterChoice.org – provides individuals around the country a central location where they can learn about credit unions and easily find one they are eligible to join. To increase the effectiveness and accuracy of this search engine, Minnesota credit unions must ensure that their profile on this site is up-to-date.

Since the site's launch, Minnesota has been one of the top 10 states with the highest traffic on the website. The all-inclusive, comprehensive credit union locator uses information from an online database to provide consumers with a list of credit unions they are eligible to join. The database is maintained and updated by each individual credit union, so the search engine is only as good as the information credit unions put into it. Therefore, it is necessary for Minnesota credit unions to ensure that their information is up-to-date in the website's database.

To verify and update your credit union's information, visit the administration page of aSmarterChoice.org. If you need a password for this site or would like to register your credit union in the database, contact MnCUN Director of Technology Scott Shoberg by email or at (651) 288-5525.
