Fall Conference early bird pricing ends Tuesday

Credit unions have until Tuesday, Aug. 7 to take advantage of MnCUN's Fall Conference early bird pricing. Attendees who register and pay by this deadline will receive $90 off the standard registration price.

Set for Sept. 7-9 at Madden's Resort in Brainerd, MnCUN's Fall Conference provides credit union professionals and volunteers a weekend of education, networking and fun. With sessions on topics ranging from the economic outlook to how to monitor risk to non-interest revenue, this conference has something for everyone. Minnesota credit unions give MnCUN high ratings in annual performance survey

Credit unions statewide rated the Minnesota Credit Union Network strongly in the 2011 Performance Survey. In an effort to provide high-quality, valuable service to member credit unions, MnCUN conducts an annual survey in March to gauge its performance over the previous calendar year. The Network Board analyzed these results at its July 20 Board meeting.

According to member credit unions, the Network offers solid service and value from year to year. On a scale from 1-7, MnCUN received an overall satisfaction rating of 6.1, and 89 percent of survey respondents felt that MnCUN has improved or maintained its service to credit unions.

Additionally, credit unions ranked Network staff as being accessible, professional, informed, experienced, well-managed and excellent leaders. MnCUN's areas of legislative advocacy, communications, and regulatory compliance received overwhelming percentages of "excellent” and "good" ratings.

MnCUN's Performance Survey, created in 2000, allows the Network Board and staff to evaluate MnCUN's service and to monitor trends in credit union satisfaction on the basis of improving, maintaining or declining service. MnCUN highlights strategic planning & consulting resources

The Minnesota Credit Union Network is equipped to provide credit unions guidance on how to tackle today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities. Through its strategic planning and consultation resources, MnCUN helps credit unions create a foundation for future growth and advancement.

Credit unions can contract with the Network to received one-on-one assistance in a variety of areas:

  • Board Education & Training Services help credit unions increase their board's level and quality of engagement. By increasing the awareness of the duties and responsibilities, providing additional knowledge and tools, and discussing best practices, the Network helps boards become more productive.
  • Strategic Planning Consulting Services help credit unions develop a three- or five-year strategic plan. The facilitator focuses on the credit union's key success factors and uses their industry expertise and market intelligence to help the credit union develop a plan for success that will help improve the organization's future health and growth.
  • Business Planning Consulting Services will help credit unions convert their strategic plan into a definitive plan of action. Network staff will assist the credit union in creating an effective plan to increase loan and deposit growth, reduce expenses, expand membership, increase capital or improve compliance.
  • Audit Report Resolution Consulting Services can help credit unions convert an overwhelming list of auditor recommendations into a manageable plan of attack. MnCUN staff is experienced in helping resolve and complete audit findings and recommendations from the NCUA and state agencies.

CUNA releases Volunteer Achievement Program eBooks

This month CUNA announced the release of Volunteer Achievement Program (VAP) modules in an eBook format. The modules, designed for use on iPads, Nooks, computers and other devices, are the first credit union-specific training modules available as eBooks.

The VAP program helps credit union volunteers learn to work effectively, make informed decisions and improve credit union performance. These self-study courses teach the philosophical and financial topics that board members and other volunteers need for their decision-making responsibilities. The program strengthens the knowledge of volunteers on a wide range of topics from financial management to compliance to strategic leadership.

The new eBook format enables credit union professionals and volunteers to conveniently access the information and training they need – whether they are in the office, at home or on the road. By completing the eBook or paper format VAP modules and the corresponding exams, credit union volunteers earn recognition, awards and pins.

  • Rochester Dairy Cooperative Employees Credit Union recently announced that it will merge into First Alliance Credit Union. The merged credit unions will have nearly $130 million in assets and will serve more than 12,000 members in the Rochester area.
