MnCUN to host Corporate Credit Union Forum & Webcast
Over the last month, NCUA’s corporate stabilization actions have left many credit unions seeking information about corporate options. To assist you in exploring potential choices, the Network, in conjunction with the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas, is hosting a free Corporate Credit Union Forum & Webcast on Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. To be held at Hiway Federal Credit Union in St. Paul, this session will facilitate a discussion on corporate credit union options. Credit union professionals and volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in this session in person or via webcast.
The forum and webcast will feature panelists composed of credit union professionals pursuing various corporate options. Specifically, it will include various individuals from Minnesota and South Dakota who are conducting business with the Federal Reserve or one of three different corporate credit unions. During this peer-to-peer panel discussion, credit union professionals will have the opportunity to ask questions about the presented corporate options and participate in a candid conversation about the corporate issues.

Network recommendation report provides marketing insight
In February and March of this year, MnCUN conducted research investigating consumers’ knowledge of, perceptions about, and attitudes toward credit unions. Using the information compiled from this analysis, MnCUN has created a Research & Communications Recommendation Report, which outlines tactics for increasing credit unions’ market share.
To be distributed to credit union presidents, marketers and business development professionals next week, this report will provide Minnesota credit unions with tangible results, ideas and messages to help them move their existing and prospective members from awareness to action. Focusing on the areas of key messages, consumer preferences, current opportunities, and regional take-aways, this publication provides tools and information to jumpstart credit union marketing efforts.

Fleming appointed to the Board
The Minnesota Credit Union Network Board of Directors named Karen Fleming, President & CEO of HBI Employees Credit Union in St. Paul, to fill a vacancy on the Board. Appointed to the Board’s less than 2,000 members category, Fleming will fill the seat vacated in mid-October by Kim Boysen of Mower County Catholic Parishes Credit Union.
According to the MnCUN Bylaws, Board seats vacated mid-term are filled by the current Board of Directors. Fleming will hold the seat until next year’s Annual Meeting, set for April 8-9, 2011.
Register today for the 2011 Governmental Affairs Conference
With the change in Congress brought about by this month’s elections, credit unions are faced with a tremendous task of educating new federal elected officials about the credit union difference. CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) on Feb. 27-March 3 will provide the state's credit union professionals and volunteers the opportunity to meet with Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation, learn about current political topics, and network with others across the country.
Held at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., GAC features breakout sessions and a variety of advocacy opportunities. The conference’s keynote speakers will focus on leadership and provide attendees insight into the connection between politics and current events. In addition, the breakout sessions offer an up-close look at a variety of legislative, regulatory, and political topics. Learn how to effectively deliver the credit union message, make the most of your Capitol Hill visits, and successfully communicate with the media.
In conjunction with the GAC, MnCUN will host Minnesota Night and the Network Luncheon. During Minnesota Night, attendees visit one of the many attractions located in the nation’s capitol. The Network Luncheon features Minnesota political officials as guest speakers and provides attendees with a briefing on the current federal issues. Following the luncheon, credit union professionals and volunteers visit the offices of all eight members of the Minnesota Congressional Delegation. Information about Minnesota's GAC events will be sent to attendees in early January.

NCUA launches public awareness campaign
The NCUA is inviting credit unions to participate in its "Keep Your Money NCUA-Safe” campaign, which was launched last month. The campaign is aimed at educating credit union members and other consumers about the safety of credit union deposits insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).
Credit unions can help spread the word about this campaign by installing the "Keep Your Money NCUA-Safe” campaign widget on their web sites. The widget directs viewers to the campaign web site, which contains 30 and 60 second television commercials featuring Suze Orman speaking about NCUA insurance. In addition, consumers can access an e-calculator that helps them ensure that their funds are federally insured.
Help strengthen the "Keep Your Money NCUA-Safe” campaign by installing the widget to your credit union’s web site today. To download the widget, visit the National Credit Union Administration web site and click on the "Get Widget” button.
2011 Chain of Hearts – sign up today
It’s not too late to sign up for the Minnesota Credit Unions for Kids committee's (MnCU4Kids')2011 Chain of Hearts fundraiser, set to kick off in early January. MnCU4Kids is coordinating this 10th annual statewide fundraiser to run from Jan. 5 to Feb. 25. For the fundraiser, credit union members purchase paper links and hearts that are connected and hung in lobbies.

Use MnCUN to boost your employee recruitment efforts
Credit unions seeking new personnel for their organization should take advantage of the services available through the Employment Opportunities section of the Network web site. This section allows credit unions to easily post their open positions and search for qualified candidates.
The Positions Available page provides credit unions with a free venue to post open positions. On this page, job seekers can search the posted positions by title, region or category and apply for the opening. Applications submitted through the Network web site are sent directly to the credit union’s human resources contact.
On the Résumé Summary web page, credit unions can search for eligible candidates using a key word or category search. In addition, the page provides credit unions succinct summaries of the experience and qualifications of more than 20 individuals seeking employment in the credit union industry. Plus, requesting complete candidates résumés can be done with a few clicks of the mouse.

Register for the April 2011 Development Education Training
Registration is now open for the 2011 Credit Union Development Education (DE) training class to be held April 6-13 in Madison, Wis. Attendees of this six-day immersion experience learn about credit unions’ social responsibility opportunities and the movement’s domestic and international development potential.
DE Training enables attendees to acquire skills in problem solving, team building, presentation giving, and the execution of credit union outreach initiatives. They also examine local and global issues and investigate how they are interconnected. Learn how to promote cooperative principles and credit union values, while developing networking relationships.
