By working together, credit unions were able to accomplish significant goals in 2013 and have formed a solid foundation for growth and success in 2014. To view the holiday greeting, click on MnCUN Holiday Message.

During the holiday season, MnCUN will be closed the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 24, and on Wednesday, Dec. 25, along with Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Legislative advocacy, awareness and Foundation included as "optional" funds on 2014 dues statements

This week, Minnesota credit unions will see three new options on the 2014 dues statements for contributing to various activities of the Network. Over the past several years, MnCUN has received inquiries from credit unions seeking ways to provide additional support to specific initiatives. The three funds as outlined below encompass these areas, which are of important strategic focus in our work to ensure the success, growth and vitality of credit unions.

LEGISLATIVE & POLITICAL FUND

  • This new fund was created to support MnCUN’s governmental affairs advocacy efforts by providing resources to strongly position credit unions on the legislative and political fronts. The Advocacy Fund will be proactive in nature, helping to create a strong credit union environment and augment MnCUN’s advocacy efforts. The Advocacy Fund will be utilized for very specific purposes, such as direct lobbying expenditures, grassroots mobilization and program enhancements, influencing decision-makers through public affairs and public relations efforts, and supporting CUNA’s National Advocacy Fund efforts. As a restricted fund, expenditures will be governed by a committee of credit unions and MnCUN staff.
CREDIT UNION AWARENESS FUND
  • Previously known as Minnesota Network Advertising Program (MNAP), this fund and committee have a new name to more accurately reflect its work. Going forward, the Awareness Advisory Committee now encompasses its broader strategic focus on consumer awareness and helping credit unions grow market share, in alignment with MnCUN’s strategic plan. Like MNAP, the Credit Union Awareness Fund continues to be a voluntarily-funded program for Minnesota credit unions, with a focus on consumer awareness and media outreach. The work of this committee benefits credit unions statewide by promoting the benefits and value of credit unions through various initiatives and spreading the word that credit unions are the best financial choice for consumers.
MINNESOTA CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION
  • The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation is an organization dedicated to providing the resources for credit unions and communities to prosper and thrive. Through its fundraising and grant disbursement, the Foundation is proud to support the financial education efforts of credit unions around the state. Each year the Foundation commits 50 percent of its budget to fund financial education grants and positively impact credit union members and communities through a variety of projects and initiatives. Additionally, the Foundation funds (1) professional development grants for credit union staff and volunteers to continue their education and sustain the credit union movement; (2) endeavors by individuals and organizations from within the credit union industry and the broader community; and (3) disaster relief grants to support credit unions in Minnesota and around the country that have been severely impacted by natural disasters.

For additional information, please contact MnCUN Vice President – Association Services Kristina Wright by email or phone at (651) 288-5507.

Minnesota credit union leader honored for 30+ year career, commitment to the industry

Associated Healthcare Credit Union (AHCU) has designated Judy (Root) Greff a Credit Union Builder through the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation. In celebrating a career in the credit union industry that spans more than 30 years, AHCU honored Greff on her impending retirement on Dec. 31.

AHCU was the last stop in Greff’s career, where she worked on its successful merger with Bluestone Federal Credit Union in 2011. In addition, she led the following credit unions:

  • Manager of NSP Highbridge Credit Union from 1983-1989;
  • President of MTC Employees Credit Union from 1989-1994; and
  • President of Bluestone Federal Credit Union (1994-2011).

"Judy has been a pillar of the credit union community during a very successful career, and we at Associated Healthcare Credit Union are pleased to have worked alongside her for the past few years,” said AHCU President & CEO Jerry Ziegler. "Her commitment and dedication to the credit union industry are appreciated and will be remembered.”

Greff was actively involved in the credit union movement, serving on the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors for six years. She also was active with the Minnesota Credit Union Network, including Credit Union for Kids, Awards Committee, the Nominating/Elections Committee, and as a member of GREAT (Grass Roots Education & Action Team). She also provided personal finance education for women in the Eagan Homeless Shelter, served on the board of directors for the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation from 2004-2010, was active in the River Cities Chapter of Credit Unions.

"I feel especially privileged to be able to honor Judy in this way, as one of our own – a former Foundation Board member – who was a voice around the table when we established the Credit Union Builder Award in 2008,” said MnCUF Chair Pat Brekken. "I thank Judy for her time and dedication to the industry and am honored to bestow upon her the prestigious title of Credit Union Builder.”

Greff joins 23 other individuals who have been honored over the past six years with the MnCUF's Credit Union Builder Award. The names of the recipients and the contributing credit unions are permanently displayed in the Minnesota Credit Union Network's lobby as a tribute to their accomplishments. To learn more about MnCUF’s Credit Union Builder Award and to view a list of those who have been honored with this recognition, visit the Foundation website (www.mncufoundation.org/cubuilder).
