 Thanks to your continual efforts to help your members and support the communities you serve, credit unions live and breathe the “people helping people” philosophy. The Minnesota Credit Union Network – in conjunction with CUNA and other credit unions and leagues around the country – is giving credit unions the opportunity to become certified as the REAL Deal.
Credit unions approved for the REAL Deal designation will receive a certificate and be able to use trademarked symbols and designs in marketing materials.
What is the REAL Deal?
The REAL Deal certification program was created as a method to recognize, track and document the good work done by credit unions around the country. While employees and members may be aware of your credit union’s outreach efforts and special programs, these efforts so often go unnoticed by the general public.
By becoming a certified REAL Deal credit union, you can let members and potential members know that your credit union not only walks the walk, but talks the talk, living the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” The REAL Deal program consists of four fundamental areas of outreach:
- REAL Programs (loans)
- REAL Sources (financial education)
- REAL Community Commitment (charitable work)
- REAL Partnerships (with other not-for-profit organizations)
We understand that no two credit unions are the same. As size, membership and geographic location vary from credit union to credit union, so do your community outreach efforts. To become REAL Deal certified, simply complete the application form and submit it to the MnCUN office. It is likely that your credit union is already working in these fundamental areas! Your application and certification will help to share this information with elected officials and the general public.

Thirty credit unions throughout the state have been certified as REAL Deal Credit Unions.
