Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal © January 27, 2016 – US Federal Credit Union will change its name to Firefly Credit Union in March, the Burnsville-based lender said Wednesday.
Founded in 1925, the credit union long served postal and federal employees. In 2004 it opened membership to all Twin Cities-area residents, workers, students, worshippers and volunteers.
“Being open to the public has undeniably spurred our recent growth, but we were too often mistaken as a credit union that served very exclusive audiences,” CEO Bill Raker said in a prepared statement explaining the change.
The credit union plans to add branches, improve its online and mobile banking options, and offer new products as soon as March.
US Federal Credit Union had 72,258 members at $1.04 billion in assets at the end of 2015, according to figures filed with the National Credit Union Association.
