CUNA News Now © January 19, 2016 – The American Association of Credit Union Leagues (ACCUL) has set a course for 2016 that closely aligns with the goals of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), said Chair Mark Cummins.

“We work hand-in-glove with CUNA’s priorities of easing regulatory burden, effective legislative advocacy and increased public awareness,” said Cummins, who is president/CEO of the Minnesota Credit Union Network.

Strong interdependency of the CUNA/league system is a priority as well. “As we enter into this new era of optionality, it’s inherent for leagues and CUNA to demonstrate the continuing value of belonging to both,” he said. “We believe future effectiveness is predicated by powerful interdependence of national and state associations.”

First up for AACUL, though, is the completion of the nationwide search for a new executive director. The director will work closely with CUNA and AACUL to enhance the dual membership system. Interested industry professionals can contact Harley Skjervem, CUNA senior vice president of human resources and facilities, for more information and to apply.

AACUL also is looking to enhance compliance resources for member credit unions this year. “We’ll look at ways to integrate the disbursed compliance expertise nationwide into a more cohesive structure,” he said.

The organization has a long history of contributing to the interdependency of the CUNA/league system and working with system leaders such as CUNA Mutual Group.

AACUL and leagues sparked the genesis of, promoting awareness of credit unions. Credit Union House, located in Washington, D.C., plays a key role in supporting legislative and regulatory advocacy for credit unions. The state credit union leagues own Credit Union House, whose activities are administered by CUNA.
