ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Business Magazine has announced finalists for its 2015 Community Impact Awards, including two Minnesota credit unions – Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and Hiway Federal Credit Union. The Community Impact Awards honor Minnesota companies and businesspeople that make giving back to the community a priority.
Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is a finalist in the “Best in Class: Large Company” category, which recognizes a company for overall excellence in positively impacting Minnesota communities. Affinity Plus was nominated for its annual Plus It Forward initiative. Inspired by the actions of its members, employees and those who live and work in the communities it serves, Affinity Plus created Plus It Forward to spread kindness and inspire others to perform intentional acts of kindness. “The pure intention of just going out and scattering kindness on Plus It Forward Day makes it an event that, when it’s embraced, can truly change lives and make communities better,” said Affinity Plus President and CEO Dave Larson. “For our members and employees, the day also demonstrates that kindness has so many different forms like sharing a funny joke, sending a thank you card or just spending meaningful time with others, and that sometimes the more simple the gesture, the more powerful the impact.”
Hiway Federal Credit Union is a finalist in the “Hiring Veterans” category, which is awarded to a company that is making an effort to employ military veterans. Hiway was nominated for its work as a Yellow Ribbon Company. Yellow Ribbon Companies provide service members and their families with community support, training, services and resources. All finalists will be highlighted in an article in the March issue of Minnesota Business Magazine and will also be honored at a Minnesota Business Magazine awards gala on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015.
