The Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch (April 19, 2016) - SouthPoint Financial Credit Union is proud to announce that Harley Braun, of Sleepy Eye, won a $500 Scholarship from the Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC). A total of $10,000 was awarded to 16 credit union members in Minnesota.
Nearly 850 students from credit unions throughout the state applied for scholarships. Applicants were selected based on school and community involvement. The FIC considered each applicant’s school and community involvement, as well as an essay answering the following question, “Other than family, what tools or resources do you use or see yourself using to make sure you are financially healthy?”
Braun wrote, “The most important tool I will use to ensure my financial stability will be education. Gaining a college education will allow me to have better opportunities for jobs, a higher salary and a more fulfilling life.”
Scholarships were given away to students in two categories: Traditional and Non-Traditional. SouthPoint Financial Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of the FIC Scholarship program.
