Northland's NewsCenter (June 10, 2016) - Credit unions from all over Minnesota came together today to help people save money in the Northland.
The Northeastern Minnesota credit unions introduced the" WINcentives" savings account.
For every 25 dollars you put aside you win an entry into a drawing.
Randy Willert, President of Two Harbors Federal Credit Union said most people are in debt and just don't save, especially baby boomers close to retirement.
"We find that when you get to the retirement age a lot of people don't have savings to meet their retirement," said Willert. "That is because they dont have good savings or financial habits when they are first starting off in life."
Willert added if you are close to retirement and not have money put aside he said its never to late to save.
The program began in January and so far over 2,000 accounts have been open in Minnesota.
