Thursday, June 9, 2016
BURNSVILLE, Minn. (June 9, 2016) - Firefly Credit Union partnered with Shred Right, Green Lights Recycling, Inc., and the Better Business Bureau to host Secure Your ID Day, a community shred event, May 21, 2016.
The event was held at Firefly’s Bloomington, Burnsville, Fridley, Lakeville and Minneapolis locations. Members and community members alike who attended the event brought in sensitive documents, which were shredded on-site, as well as electronic items to be securely recycled.
This semi-annual Firefly Credit Union event not only provides a way for those in the community to protect themselves against identity theft by securely shredding important documents, but it also has a positive impact on the environment. This event alone helped members of the Greater Twin Cities CommunitySM keep 5,616 pounds of electronics of out landfills. Attendees also recycled 36,094 pounds, roughly 18 tons, of paper. According to Shred Right, the recycled paper equates to saving 306 trees, 126,329 gallons of water, and 54.14 cubic yards in landfills.
Secure Your ID Day is one of the many ways Firefly encourages the community to prevent identity theft. They will be hosting their next community shred event this fall. For more information about safeguarding your sensitive information, please visit www.fireflycu.org or www.thefirstbbb.org.
