Firefly Credit Union - BURNSVILLE, Minn. (August 23, 2016) - Firefly Credit Union has been honored with the 2016 Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award for their Learn@Work program. The award, sponsored by the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of adult financial literacy.

The Learn@Work initiative was created in 2001 to bring financial education to the work place for the convenience of the typical everyday working adult. In 2015, the program received a comprehensive overhaul to address the credit union’s changing demographic as well as bring a new look to current-day personal finance issues. In the first half of 2016 alone, more than 1,000 employees of Firefly’s partner companies have benefited from attending a Learn@Work seminar.

“The Learn@Work program provides employees of our partner companies with free courses on a wide variety of personal finance topics including budgeting, fraud prevention, and investing,” said Reyna Staats, Business Development Manager at Firefly Credit Union. “Our team has also begun to move beyond finance to other requested topics such as health and wellness. With more than thirty different courses offered, there are a numerous opportunities for employees to get the guidance they truly need!”

Seminars the Firefly team offers through their Learn@Work program include: Money Lessons from the Movies, Five Urban Legends about Personal Finance, and Tough Love for the Boomerang Child. They are also in the works of implementing an interactive, online financial education tool, EverFi.

Firefly’s award winning entry will advance to the national competition, where it will compete with financial education projects from credit unions across the country.
