Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union - BRAINERD, Minn. (August 25, 2017) - Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union (MMFCU) has partnered with Brainerd Community Action in lending a hand to the Burlington House. The donation will be used to add an additional egress window in the lower level of the home to accommodate more men. The house is currently set up for 6 people and the egress windows would allow for there to be 8 tenants.
Burlington House was built as railroad housing in North Brainerd in 1894. The Burlington House has now been renovated as a home for men seeking sober living. This historic house has been beautifully restored to provide a home of comfort for men seeking solace while furthering their sobriety after being referred from the MN Adult & Teen Challenge program. The mission of the Burlington House is to offer a structured, supportive, safe and sober living environment at an affordable price.
Sheila Haverkamp, Owner and House Manager of Burlington House said “We provide a safe and sober home with rules and lifestyle expectations. The men are thriving in a positive and caring setting all while working, attending outpatient treatment programs, participating in regular AA meetings and creating a sense of family.”
Chuck Albrecht, President & CEO remarks “Mid-Minnesota is a proud supporter of our local community and strives to give back to those in need. We look forward to the continuing restoration of the Burlington House and its mission to serve those who are looking to serve themselves with positive change who can in turn strengthen our community.”
Holly Holm expressed "The mission of Brainerd Community Action is to provide support and fiscal agency to new and existing non-profit entities that serve the Brainerd Lakes Area. The Burlington House fits into this mission perfectly and we couldn't be more proud to help support the vision of Sheila and Gene Haverkamp."
