Brainerd Dispatch (September 1, 2017) - Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union has partnered with Brainerd Community Action in lending a hand to the Burlington House.
The donation will be used to add an additional egress window in the lower level of the home to accommodate more men. The house is currently set up for six people and the egress windows would allow for there to be eight tenants.
Burlington House was built as railroad housing in north Brainerd in 1894. The Burlington House has been renovated as a home for men seeking sober living. This historic house has been restored to provide a home for men seeking solace while furthering their sobriety after being referred from the Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge program. The mission of the Burlington House is to offer a structured, supportive, safe and sober living environment at an affordable price.
"The men are thriving in a positive and caring setting all while working, attending outpatient treatment programs, participating in regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and creating a sense of family," said Sheila Haverkamp, owner and house manager of Burlington House, in a news release.
