Mill City Credit Union Awards $2,000 to Local Do-Gooders

Mill City Credit Union - MINNETONKA, Minn. (March 6, 2018) - Mill City Credit Union (CU) has announced the winners of its most recent Making the Greater Good Even Greater give-back campaign. The winners, non-profit Students Today Leaders Forever and small business Highly Favored Events, LLC, were each awarded $1,000 from the credit union.
About Students Today Leader Forever
Students Today Leaders Forever (STLF) is committed to making a difference by revealing leadership through service, relationships, and action. STLF develops leadership through Pay It Forward Tours – student-led, cross- country road trips on which students travel to a new community daily to volunteer with local nonprofits to address prominent social issues in the area through service, as well as through local workshops and summer leadership camps. To date, STLF has directly impacted more than 32,000 young people through self-initiated leadership development opportunities, resulting in more than 400,000 hours of volunteer community service in 49 states.
About Highly Favored Events, LLC
The Shades of Beauty Expo, hosted by Highly Favored Events, LLC, is an event that was created to inspire and empower women of color. Each year, it looks to celebrate the beauty of women of color (both inside and out) while at the same time educating them on health concerns that affect their community and ways to be proactive in fighting those diseases and illnesses, in turn leading to a healthier life. The expo provides workshops, demonstrations, prizes, and free health screenings and showcases woman- and minority-owned Twin Cities small businesses. Attendees of all ages will leave The Shades of Beauty Expo equipped to take control of their health, inspired to embrace their unique beauty, and committed to empowering others.
About Making the Greater Good Even Greater
Making the Greater Good Even Greater is a campaign that honors the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and inspires charitable giving. Community members can nominate a non-profit or small business through Mill City CU’s Greater Good program webpage. Nominations are accepted year-round, and eligible nominees are entered into a Facebook contest. The non-profit and small business with the most likes at the end of a specified voting period are declared the winners and awarded $1,000 each. Since August 2015, Mill City CU has awarded nearly $30,000 to 18 non-profits and 16 small businesses through the campaign.
To be eligible, small business or non-profit organizations must have total net revenue of less than $500,000 on their last IRS filing or an IRS 501c3 tax exemption status, respectively. They must also operate in Carver, Hennepin, McLeod, Meeker, or Wright County. Additional details can be found online.
