Credit Union News
The primary purpose of the Minnesota Credit Union Network is to ensure the success, growth and vitality of our member credit unions. To this end, MnCUN channels the collective energy of credit unions throughout the state and works to lead the industry into the future – together.
Over the past decade, MnCUN has consistently maintained an affiliation rating of more than 90 percent. Through our core service areas, we strive to create the environment to promote credit union growth in the state of Minnesota. As the year winds to a close, it's a great opportunity to start thinking about professional development opportunities in 2013. This week MnCUN uploaded to its online Event Calendar the preliminary information for its 2013 webinars, roundtables, Webinars On Demand and conferences.
The Network has a full slate of educational opportunities planned for next year. Credit union professionals and volunteers will be able to learn online through webinars and network with others in the movement during MnCUN's roundtables. Webinars On Demand enable individuals to learn at their own time and place and share the training with others in their office. The Network's conferences provide in-depth learning opportunities in the areas of lending, political involvement, supervisory committee effectiveness and more.

In anticipation of Credit Union Day at the Capitol on Jan. 29, MnCUN is excited to announce a change to the legislative visits portion of the day's events. Rather than requiring attendees to schedule their own visits with elected officials, the Network will be handling the task of coordinating and scheduling legislative visits at the state Capitol.
MnCUN's Credit Union Day at the Capitol gives professionals and volunteers the opportunity to bring the credit union message to elected officials. During the morning, attendees learn about grassroots involvement and legislative issues, receiving firsthand knowledge from elected officials about the legislative session. The afternoon consists of visits to the state Capitol to meet with representatives and senators to discuss issues important to credit unions.
In previous years, individuals were required to schedule their own legislative visits with their elected officials. This year the Network is taking that item off attendees' to-do lists and coordinating the visits. Attendees will only have to complete the CU Day registration form, and the Network will handle the rest!

As the population ages, credit unions must be prepared to handle members' financial activity and requests involving powers of attorney, conservatorships and guardianships. On Dec. 18, MnCUN will host a webinar focused on each of these legal relationships and the power and authority they give designated individuals.
The Account Compliance for Conservatorships, Guardianships & Powers of Attorney in Minnesota webinar will teach credit unions the important differences between powers of attorney, conservatorships and guardianships. Attendees will learn what a credit union must consider when presented with a legal document establishing one of these relationships. Specifically, the webinar will highlight:
On Thursday, credit unions received a survey link from CUNA that will enable them to provide CUNA and MnCUN feedback on their most recent examinations by the NCUA and/or state regulators. The information, which will be kept anonymous, will help CUNA and the leagues hone their advocacy efforts on exam-related issues.
Survey replies are confidential, and identifying information from individual credit union respondents will not be seen by individuals outside of CUNA's Market Research Department. Only summary results will be reported. To access the survey, visit the Regulatory Advocacy page of the CUNA website.
The 2012 fundraising year for Minnesota Credit Unions for Kids (MnCU4Kids) is quickly coming to an end. All funds raised throughout the year must be received by the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation by Tuesday, Dec. 18. These funds will then be forwarded to Gillette to meet the year-end deadline.
Send in your credit union's funds today to help MnCU4Kids reach its goal of raising $160,000 in 2012. When sending in donations, be sure to include the MnCU4Kids Reporting Form. Please forward all funds to:
