Filene Impact Roadshow coming to the Minnesota Credit Union Network

on Tuesday, May 3, Tansley Stearns from Filene Research Institute will be hosting an Impact Roadshow at the MnCUN office in St. Paul.

The Impact Roadshow offers credit unions a convenient and fun way to find out how Filene takes the best ideas, rooted in research and proven in the market, and makes them scalable and sustainable to drive change. Stearns will walk through some of Filene's latest programs, and the research and innovation behind them.

The event will last from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is no cost to attend but registration is required. More information and registration available on Filene’s website.

The Filene Research Institute is dedicated to scientific and thoughtful analysis about issues vital to the future of credit unions and consumer finance.

Members of i3 program to present mobile payments innovation

Next week, representatives from Filene’s i3 program, Ben Hering of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and Matthew Schewe of City & County Credit Union, will be presenting SpendClear, a mobile tool designed to track purchases and make payments through members' Smartphones. The event will be held at the Minnesota Credit Union Network office in St. Paul from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Thursday, April 28.

What solution are we proposing and seeking your insight?
SpendClear is a mobile tool designed to track purchases and make payments through your Smartphone.  By using mobile capture technology, SpendClear will allow you to scan bar codes of the items you plan to purchase and link real time to your credit union checking account balances. The ultimate vision is that SpendClear plugs into your existing credit union mobile app and will allow for payment through your linked debit or credit card, saving you the time and hassle of waiting to check out with a cashier. Our solution will disrupt the payments industry by empowering members to make informed purchasing decisions without the need for a cashier or sales associate.

Why care about mobile centric members?
With the evolution of payments, credit unions need to be ahead of the curve to continue to attract mobile centric members. Mobile bankers are more profitable. A Fiserv proprietary study of mobile users conducted in July 2014 found that compared to non-digital bankers, mobile bankers have an attrition rate that is 10 times lower, they use almost twice as many products on average, and they generate higher annual fees (over four times higher for customers aged 31-40).

The Filene i3 team has created a survey to collect feedback on this payments innovation. The deadline to complete this survey is tomorrow, Friday, April 22.

There is no cost for this event, but registration is required. Space is limited to the first 25 registrants.

Filene's renowned i3 (Ideas, Innovation, Implementation) group launched in 2004 with the support of Chairman's Roundtable Benefactor PSCU. Filene's i3 program brings together the best and the brightest next generation of credit union leaders and sets them loose on the consumer finance industry’s most flummoxing problems.
