WINcentive® Savings Balances reach $1.8 million dollars

Almost 3,400 Minnesotans have opened the prize-linked savings account WINcentive Savings and $1.8 million has been saved as of Jul. 31. “WINcentive has exceeded our expectations,” said John Ferstl, Vice President of the Network Services Corporation. “We are very pleased with how the program has taken off - with consumers, our credit unions, and the media.”

News outlets all over the state continue to cover stories about WINcentive. Recent media, including print, radio and TV coverage, is highlighted on the WINcentive Press Page.

News of the success of the program is reaching those outside Minnesota as well. Recently MnCUN announced an agreement with the New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) to provide the technological backing needed to administer New York’s prize linked savings program, Lucky Savers. MnCUN uses Minnesota Item Processing Corporation (MnIPC), its wholly-owned, for-profit subsidiary, to run proprietary software and administer the technology needs for WINcentive Savings. With the new agreement, MnIPC will provide that same technology management for New York’s Lucky Savers program, including prize drawing administration, reporting and technical support for NYCUA’s participating member credit unions.

“We see this partnership with New York as a great opportunity to create greater efficiencies for our credit unions as well,” continued Ferstl.

A new report has been published online detailing the outcomes of the WINcentive Savings program to date. One of the ways that the Minnesota Credit Union Network provides advocacy for credit unions is through media relations and consumer awareness efforts. A key component of this work is the MN Credit Union News channel. This webpage aggregates news stories, photos and press releases to highlight the many reasons why credit unions are local, trusted financial institutions.  


When credit unions submit their news stories to MnCUN, those stories become part of a “cycle of news” that helps to increase the circulation of credit union happenings to a broader audience, amplifying the messages.


Here’s how the cycle of news works:


  • Stories are posted to the MN Credit Union News channel.
  • On a weekly basis, stories are aggregated and highlighted in The Pulse newsletter.
  • Next, MnCUN publishes an array of stories in its regular Connected to Community newsletter, which is delivered to legislators, public opinion leaders, members of the media, and more.
  • Stories are also included in Fluence Media publications, which include Morning Take and Business Take newsletters for business executives, opinion leaders, legislators, public affairs contacts, and influential people around the state.
  • Stories are also regularly pitched to the local press and credit union trade press, generating additional coverage.


Credit unions are encouraged to share information about their activities and programs with the Network, either via press release, through photos or by submitting a brief synopsis of a sponsorship or an event happening at your credit union. Stories can be submitted online or directly to MnCUN Communications Specialist Laura Whittet.  



Last chance to register for the 2016 Fall Leadership Conference

The Minnesota Credit Union Network's 2016 Fall Leadership Conference will be held Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Madden's Resort in Brainerd. Filled with educational sessions, entertainment and recreation opportunities, this event provides a weekend of learning, relaxation and fun. Sessions throughout the weekend are designed for both credit union professionals and volunteers.

Sign up for Miracle Jeans Day – Sept. 14

Wearing jeans may lead to a more comfortable day in the office for you, but on Miracle Jeans Day it also generates hope for families relying on the services of a Childrens Miracle Network Hospital. A simple $5 donation could supply 10 diapers for a premature baby. A $25 donation could provide five baby blankets. Best of all—your donation stays local to help kids at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare.

There are three main ways to participate in Miracle Jeans Day: 

  • Merchandise: Donate online to receive T-shirts or pre-printed stickers through our official store. 
  • Online Teams: Create your own online fundraising team, where you can collect donations via credit card from friends, family, co-workers, or anyone wanting to join your jeans day. Then, just download our Printable Starter Kit for great support materials. 
  • Participate Offline: Participate your own way, and use our downloadable materials to host a Miracle Jeans Day however you’d like.  Then, just send your donations to your Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Instructions on mailing in donations are available online.

Since 2009, Miracle Jeans Day has encouraged groups and individuals alike to trade their traditional work attire for jeans and help raise funds for kids treated at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their area. Since its beginning, Miracle Jeans Day has raised more than $4 million to help fund life-saving medical needs in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

CUAid Activated for victims of Louisiana Flooding

The National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) has activated the online disaster relief system to raise money for credit union people in Louisiana affected by recent flooding.

Credit union supporters in every state can make donations at CUAid is the only program of its kind that enables credit union employees, volunteers, and members, as well as credit unions and credit union organizations across the U.S., to contribute directly to support other credit union people.

“Louisiana has been severely affected by the recent floods in our state and could use your help,” said Connie Major, EVP/CFO of the Louisiana Credit Union League. “It’s been called the ‘great flood of 2016’ and it came so fast that many credit union people didn’t have enough time to even consider evacuating. Aside from the numerous members affected, we’ve heard from credit union CEOs and staff that have lost everything. We cannot determine the full impact just yet as people are still being airlifted from their homes via helicopters.”

As donations are posted through, the National Credit Union Foundation will coordinate with the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation in the disaster area to distribute money efficiently to affected credit union employees and members. One hundred percent of the donations through CUAid goes to credit union disaster relief. In the event that all donations are not used for Louisiana flooding relief, the National Credit Union Foundation will transfer any and all unused funds to its "General Disaster Relief fund" for future disaster relief efforts.
