ST. PAUL, Minn. – Last week, Tanner, a patient at Gillette Children’s Hospital, along with his family, helped hospital representatives recognize Hiway Federal Credit Union for its substantial fundraising efforts. Hiway Federal Credit Union has raised $410,600 to benefit Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare since the inception of the Minnesota Credit Unions for Kids Committee (MnCU4Kids) in 1997.
Current Hiway Federal Credit Union President, Dave Boden (2013-present), and past Presidents Jeff Schwalen (2002-2013) and Jim Seifert (1999-2002) accepted a plaque from Gillette Children’s Hospital.
“We at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare are so thankful for the continued support of credit unions,” said Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare Vice President of Institutional Advancement Dennis Jolley. “Credit unions and Gillette are similar in that we are dedicated to the community, and we are here to help people be successful and independent.”
Throughout the year, Hiway Federal Credit Union holds six cookouts with proceeds going to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. The credit union also raises funds through the sale of popcorn, paper hearts, bake sales, and Miracle Jeans Days.
MnCU4Kids, a committee of the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation, is part of a collaboration of credit unions, chapters, leagues and business partners engaged in fundraising activities that benefit Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated hospitals. MnCU4Kids has raised more than $2.8 million in total funds since its inauguration through the generous support of credit unions and vendor organizations throughout the state.
Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare is an independent, not-for-profit hospital located in St. Paul, with outreach clinics in Duluth, Burnsville, Maple Grove, Willmar, Brainerd, Mankato, and Minnetonka. All money raised through the MnCU4Kids program supports Gillette, helping kids with disabilities and chronic conditions. Credit Unions for Kids is a national program, which is endorsed by nearly all 50 state credit union leagues.
