Next Week Minnesota Credit Unions to Give Back Over 12,000 Volunteer Hours in One Day of Service
Monday, October 2, 2017
ST. PAUL, Minn. (October 2, 2017) - On Monday, Oct. 9, 37 Minnesota credit unions and partners will dedicate 12,224 volunteer hours in 80 Minnesota communities, with an estimated impact on more than 33,574 people.
CU Forward Day, is held annually on Columbus Day, a federal holiday the second Monday in October. Credit union employees will participate in events ranging from building for Habitat for Humanity; preparing meals for homeless youth; outdoor clean up events; free document shred days; hosting a children’s book drive; packing food for Feed My Starving Children; and providing random acts of kindness for community members.
Credit unions of all sizes, from throughout Minnesota, have committed to give back to their communities in a cooperative effort to spread kindness. The event is coordinated by the Minnesota Credit Union Network, the state trade association for Minnesota’s credit unions.
“As not for profit financial institutions, Minnesota’s credit unions work every day to improve their members financial lives,” said Minnesota Credit Union Network President & CEO Mark Cummins. “And they also work for their communities. Not because they have to, but because service is a core element of the social mission of credit unions. The collaborative effort on CU Forward Day is a perfect example of credit unions fulfilling their ‘people helping people’ philosophy.”
