Your Membership Further: MnCUN’s Mid-Year 2019 Activities & Accomplishments

 

Throughout the year, MnCUN is dedicated to accomplishing a wide variety of strategic initiatives geared toward creating an environment for credit unions to grow, under the pillars of Advocate, Educate, Inspire, and Connect. At the mid-point of 2019, we wanted to give you – our members – an update on the activities that the Network has engaged in on your behalf.

 

Advocate

  •  Passed credit union-friendly legislation to amend requirements for mergers and conversions Rebuffed proposed onerous changes to state’s unclaimed property statutes.
  • Tracked and lobbied over 50 pieces of legislation.
  • Met with dozens of legislators during session to advocate for credit union legislative agenda.
  • Helped procure support from the offices of Governor, Attorney General and the Department of Commerce for cannabis banking safe harbor legislation in Congress.
  • Filed eight comment letters.
  • Provided guidance on 248 compliance and legal questions.
  • Provided 33 compliance audits supporting 20 credit unions.
  • First state in the nation to launch the Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union Consumer Awareness initiative; garnering 28 million digital impressions to date and statewide out of home campaign.
  • Posted nearly 208 stories to the Credit Union News Channel and influenced 48 earned media mentions.

Educate

  • Offered over 120 education sessions and webinars; including major events CU Day at the Capitol, CEO Conference, and GAC.
  • Held MnCUN Annual Conference for nearly 500 credit union professionals, volunteers, and partners.
  • Held events for Crew Young Professionals Group & Women’s Leadership Network.

Inspire

  • Updated the small credit union grant threshold from less than $35M to less than $50M in assets; and less than $35K to less than $50K in net income; and increased the small credit union grant amount from $500 to $1,000 per year.
  • Second year of CUNA Enhanced Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP) in Minnesota in partnership with Mark Lynch and CU Difference.
  • Recognized four CU Builders
  • CU4Kids has raised over $90,000 for Gillette’s Children’s Specialty Healthcare through its various fundraising initiatives and events this year.
  • The Foundation Scholarship Council awarded $12,000 in scholarships to ten Minnesota credit union members, and raised nearly $21,000 for future scholarship awards.
  • Held the second annual Minnesota Credit Union Marketing Awards banquet.
  • Honored the Outstanding Professional of the Year and Volunteer of the Year winners.

Connect

  • Formed the Minnesota Credit Union Employee Benefits Plan with the goal of providing health insurance to credit union employees by January 1, 2020.
  • Grew WINcentive Savings prize giveaways to $100,000 with 23 participating credit unions.
  • Helped credit unions connect with potential job applicants through 301 career postings.
  • Added CULS and Bank BI as Strategic Alliances to help credit unions  compete in today’s financial environment.

 

The strength of the Minnesota credit union movement is represented by the partnership between the Network and our member credit unions, along with our dedication to working cooperatively to advocate for more than 1.8 million credit union members across the state.
