Thursday, October 24, 2019
Wakota Federal Credit Union - SOUTH St. Paul, Minn. (Oct. 17, 2019) On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Monday, October 14, Wakota Federal Credit Union (WFCU) joined other Minnesota credit unions and partners for CU Forward Day.
At this collaborative event, all WFCU employees volunteered roughly 52 hours benefiting residents of the John Carroll and Nan McKay buildings and the Dakota County communities. Volunteers distributed goodie bags and helped with miscellaneous tasks at the West St. Paul YMCA. In addition, a cash donation to the local non-profit, selected by the employees, was donated to the Climb Theater.
“Being a source of kindness in our communities is one of the simplest ways we can give back,” said Mary Matheson, President and CEO of Wakota Federal Credit Union. “Joining other credit unions in an effort to spread kindness across our state showcases the true power of collaboration.”
Credit unions are devoted to the philosophy of “People Helping People” which is exhibited by their cooperative structures, support of financial education, and active engagement within their communities.
The statewide CU Forward Day was originated as Plus It Forward Day created by Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in 2013. This collaborative community outreach day conducted by Minnesota credit unions, which are local, trusted not-for-profit financial cooperatives, will continue on an annual basis.
