Hometown Focus © January 15, 2016 – In the true spirit of credit unions –People Helping People – Embarrass Vermillion Federal Credit Union (EVFCU) sent Holiday Hugs to area schools. EVFCU has three locations (Aurora, Embarrass and Tower) serving three schools. Members of the credit union, along with members of the surrounding communities, were asked to help send “Hugs” to the dedicated teachers of Mesabi East Schools in Aurora,Northeast Range School in Babbitt and the Tower-Soudan School in Tower.

Dec. 1 was the Holiday Hugs kickoff, and the community and members really pitched in. Boxes of tissues, pencils, markers, hats, mittens and numerous other much-needed supplies were delivered to our schools.

Items were delivered to Northeast Range School on Jan. 4, 2016, by Cynthia Scherer, and to Tower-Soudan School by Sunday Young on Jan. 5, 2016.

A few years ago the credit union did a huge fundraiser for “Homes for our Troops,” raising over $4,000 to provide a Minnesota soldier a handicapped accessible home in Woodbury, MN. The last four years EVFCU has placed in the top three for fundraising per member with Mn- CU4Kids. Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare System continues to be a major recipient of their fundraising efforts.

February of 2014 brought out a little bit of craziness when some of the board members, team members and even a few credit union members braved the 34 below zero temperatures and took the Polar Plunge during Hoyt LakesCabin Fever Days, raising over $3,000 for the kids.

EVFCU’s next big fundraiser is the Chain of Hearts campaign which began on Monday, Jan. 11, and runs through Feb. 26, 2016. Anyone can come to any of the three EVFCU office locations and purchase a chain link or one of three different sized hearts, which will be displayed in the lobby of each location.

CEO Roxi Jensen said, “It’s important that we are involved in our communities. Our philosophy is ‘People Helping People’ and we hold that dear. With the current economic conditions, we understand the struggles families are facing. We are here to help, as we’ve done in the past.”
