Habitat, Home and All Kinds of Help: Credit Unions in the Community

Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., worked with the Reading Royals hockey organization to help 13 local charities. For the second consecutive year, Diamond held the "Shoot for CommYOUNITY" challenge during Saturday home games at the Royals' arena.



As part of its 82nd Annual Meeting, SPIRE CU, Falcon Heights, Minn., held a food drive, accepting donations for the Second Harvest Heartland food bank. Enough food and money was collected to provide nearly 1,400 meals for needy families.


Alaska USA

In Anchorage, the Alaska USA Foundation donated $15,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska to support the Operation Bigs program. The program provides mentors for children of military families, as well as volunteer opportunities for military members.


CU of Ohio

Credit Union of Ohio, Hilliard, Ohio, held a Couponing for Good Challenge that impacted the spending habits of its participants and collected more than 425 lbs. of food and household items for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.



Amy Lichwa, CEO of Norwin Teachers FCU and member of the Pennsylvania CU Foundation board of directors, and Doug Aftanos, a business teacher at Norwin High School, prepared a correlation report aligning the lessons taught in Financial Reality Fairs to the National Business Education Association Standards for Business Learning.



TruMark Financial CU, Fort Washington, Pa., hosted 25 kids at its Bring Your Child to Work Day. Children ages 7 to 12 toured the credit union's headquarters and branch offices, learned how to make a deposit and received a demonstration of the coin-counting machine.



Female employees of Align CU, Lowell, Mass., supported Habitat for Humanity's 9th annual National Women Build Week by installing flooring and siding, and painting a single-family home to benefit a former victim of domestic abuse and her son.



Ideal CU, Woodbury, Minn., received an Excellence in Community Education Leadership Award from the ISD 622 Community Education Advisory Council.



Quincy CU, Quincy, Mass., partnered with the South Shore YMCA to promote the 24th Annual Healthy Kids Day by pledging to take a stand against bullying.



Battle Creek, Mich.-based Kellogg Community FCU broke ground on a new branch in Kalamazoo, in the Corner@Drake development. It will be in the same center as Costco and Field & Stream.
