Affinity Plus Foundation - ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 21, 2016) - The Affinity Plus Foundation is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program. This year, the foundation will be awarding eight, $5,000 scholarships to student members of Affinity Plus.

This year, in an effort to maximize the reach and impact of the scholarships, a scholarship will be given to two students from each of the following student categories:

  • incoming freshmen
  • upperclassmen
  • nontraditional
  • graduate

Applicants are able to self-select the category from which they would like to be considered.

This is the foundation’s sixteenth year offering academic scholarships to student members, and “we really have seen the value of these scholarships come full circle,” said Amy Hanson, executive director of the foundation. “Education is a vital component of one’s success and we continue to see how our scholarship program is truly making a difference in the lives of our members as they work toward their life goals and dreams.

“The stories past recipients have shared about how the money has helped them accomplish a particular goal or given them the opportunity to do something that wouldn’t have been possible without the scholarship, is really the reason why we feel strongly about providing this program to our members,” said Hanson.

Torrey L., one of the 2016 scholarship recipients, has focused her work on assisting students with special needs and disabilities. “I know my education will allow me to make a difference in the lives of these students and I’m thankful to the Affinity Plus Foundation for reducing the financial burden of my college experience with this generous scholarship.”

The online application opened on September 1 and will remain open through January 31, 2017. Applicants must be a primary member of Affinity Plus and provide transcripts and an essay response. Nontraditional and graduate students also need to submit two letters of recommendation.

Scholarship dollars awarded are intended for expenses for the 2017-2018 school year.
