Mill City Credit Union - MINNETONKA, Minn. (July 6, 2017) - Mill City Credit Union (CU) has announced the winners of its most recent Making the Greater Good Even Greater give-back campaign. The winners, non-profit Freedom Farm and small business Friedman’s Department Store, were each awarded $1,000 from the credit union.

About Freedom Farm

Susie Bjorklund opened the doors to Freedom Farm in 2000. Freedom Farm enriches lives by partnering with the unique attributes of the horse in a peaceful country setting offering healing, hope, and freedom. A dedicated staff, 12 horses, and 150 volunteers walk alongside the individuals who take part in the therapeutic riding program. Freedom Farm plans to use the $1,000 to provide scholarship funds for its therapeutic riders.

About Friedman’s Department Store

The experience at Friedman’s is still as tailored as it was in the 1920s, but now they carry a wide variety of hip footwear including Puma, Reebok, Adidas, Converse, Nike, New Balance, and Perry Ellis. Since its beginning, Friedman’s has enjoyed giving back to the community with their annual back to school event, where they partner with the YMCA and local schools to provide a new pair of shoes to children in need. With the $1,000 award, the department store will be able to supply an additional ten children with shoes and backpacks filled with school supplies.

About Making the Greater Good Even Greater

Making the Greater Good Even Greater is a campaign that honors the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and inspires charitable giving throughout the Twin Cities area. Community members can nominate their favorite non-profit or small business through Mill City CU’s Greater Good program webpage. Nominations are accepted year-round, and eligible nominees are entered into a Facebook Contest. The non- profit and small business with the most likes at the end of the voting period are declared the winners and awarded $1,000 each. Since August 2015, Mill City CU has awarded nearly $25,000 to 15 non-profits and 14 small businesses through the campaign.

To be eligible, small business or non-profit organizations must have total net revenue of less than $500,000 on their last IRS filing or an IRS 501c3 tax exemption status. They must also operate in the counties that Mill City CU serves: Carver, Hennepin, McLeod, Meeker, and Wright. Additional details can be found online.
