Hiway Federal Credit Union - ST. PAUL, Minn. (July 10, 2017) - Congratulations to Tina Jones, Community Outreach Administrator at Hiway Federal Credit Union® (Hiway). Tina, along with 47 other credit union professionals, received the Credit Union Development Education (CUDE) designation after completing an intensive training program through the National Credit Union Foundation in Madison, WI.

“Development Education Training was an amazing experience,” said Jones. “I gained a better understanding of the history of credit unions, how they serve their members and community and why we do what we do each day. I look forward to bringing what I have learned to our Hiway community.”

The training provided critical lessons in cooperative principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues while incorporating challenges credit unions face today. Participants were required to complete team projects proposing solutions for credit unions to help alleviate or eliminate challenging situations in any given area. For the training’s final case studies, participants worked through and presented solutions to critical issues that included financial stability among young adults and families, credit union board development, building microfinance programs in the Philippines, credit union solutions to predatory lending, the increasing issue of homelessness in America and rejuvenating a stagnant credit union.

“Hiway is committed to the financial well-being of our members and the communities we serve,” said Christine Cordell, Senior VP of Strategy & Planning. “As a financial cooperative, we continue to focus on these important principles. Tina’s designation will provide a lasting impact to our members, the communities and schools we serve.”
