CUNA announces Board election results, Pierce Selected to Serve

Recently, the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) announced election results for the organization’s Board of Directors. From Minnesota, City & County Credit Union President & CEO Patrick Pierce was elected as the District 4, Class B representative.


Pat Pierce has been a leader in the credit union movement for over 28 years. As a Certified Credit Union Executive, Pierce has 17 years of combined experience as President and CEO of City & County Credit Union and Hermantown Federal Credit Union of Minnesota. Pat has been a recipient of numerous Credit Union and Civic Awards including the Credit Union Professional of the Year Award in 2007. He has been involved with the Minnesota Credit Union Network in numerous capacities, including serving as Chairman of the Network Board, a member of the Minnesota Credit Union Network Political Involvement Committee for over 20 years, and currently serves on the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA’s) Advocacy Committee.


There were two contested elections for the CUNA Board of Directors. Maria J. Martinez, president/CEO of Border FCU, Del Rio, Texas, has been elected as the District 5, Class A representative. There were two open seats for Class C, elected nationally at-large. Elected were Lisa Ginter, CEO, CommunityAmerica CU in Lenexa, Kan., and Brett Martinez, president/CEO of Redwood CU in Santa Rosa, California.


These directors will join three others who were elected by acclamation on December 8: Tom Kane, president of the Illinois CU League, Naperville, Ill. and Fred Robinson, president/CEO, Tennessee CU League, Chattanooga, Tenn., each elected nationally at-large to Class D (League President) positions. District 4 includes Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin; Class B includes credit unions having at least 38,000 but not more than 141,000 natural-person members.


Directors elected will take office upon the adjournment of CUNA's Annual General Meeting in Washington, D.C., Feb. 26, during the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference. Terms of office are three years.



Nominations for Simon Hellermann Philanthropy, Professional and Volunteer of The Year Awards Close Feb. 9

MnCUN is now accepting nominations for its most prestigious awards. Now is your chance to nominate a colleague for the Outstanding Professional of the Year or Outstanding Volunteer of the Year; or make a nomination for the Simon Hellermann Philanthropy Award.


Outstanding Professional of the Year recognizes the notable service of one outstanding credit union professional who has selflessly given time, effort and talent to the support and promotion of the credit union mission and who has gone above and beyond to improve the credit union culture in Minnesota.


Outstanding Volunteer of the Year is given to one extraordinary credit union volunteer who best exemplifies the credit union spirit through dedication to, and belief in, the credit union movement. Grounds for nomination include involvement in the credit union movement at local and state levels and participation in other activities that support the credit union mission.


Simon Hellermann Philanthropy Award recognizes demonstrated excellence in credit union philanthropy and contributions to the credit union movement in Minnesota. This award – established in 1999 as a tribute to Minnesota credit union philanthropist Simon Hellermann – recognizes an outstanding contribution to a humanitarian cause and also promotes credit union philanthropy, service and loyalty. Individuals, credit unions, chapters and affinity groups are eligible to receive this award. 


The winners of these awards are recognized during the Minnesota Credit Union Network Annual Meeting & Convention, which will take place April 5 through 6 at Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington. Nominations for the awards must be received by the Network by Friday, Feb 9. Complete information and online nomination forms can be found on the Recognition Awards page of the Network website. Free and Customizable Financial Education Apps Available through the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation

The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation (MnCUF) is excited to provide credit unions with a financial literacy tool targeting school age children, ages 2 through 12.


The MnCUF has partnered with HT Mobile Apps to bring their financial education platform, Member Jr., to Minnesota. Through this partnership, MnCUF offers a Foundation branded MnCU Jr. App to members throughout the state at no charge. The Foundation also has great options for credit unions to brand the application at discounted rates.


The Foundation version consists of 6 sections including:

  • Lessons
  • Achievements
