Grassroots Coordinator Training Scheduled for July 11

The Minnesota Credit Union Network will be holding a training for current and prospective Grassroots Coordinators at the Minnesota State Capitol on Wednesday, July 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. The training, led by MnCUN Director of Government Affairs Ryan Smith, will provide a legislative update and best practices for engaging credit union staff and members with legislative issues.

The Grassroots Coordinator program was started in 2013 to identify credit union employees that would help increase political awareness of other credit union staff and help boost the rate of response to legislative action alerts. The program has been a success, with 56 credit unions currently represented by a Grassroots Coordinator.

Coordinators are expected to:

  • Serve as the primary contact for legislative/regulatory activities as they relate to MnCUN and their credit union
  • Strive to remain current on key legislation and issues that affect credit unions
  • Work with the President/CEO to set grassroots goals for the credit union
  • Recruit, educate, and mobilize staff, Board and members to engage in grassroots related activities
  • Report back to MnCUN the number of Call to Action contacts on a regular basis
  • Attend grassroots strategy meetings and necessary training

Registration for the event is available online. Lunch will be provided.
