Nominations Now Open for 2019 Wegner Awards

Credit union supporters are encouraged to nominate individuals and organizations for the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards to be presented by the National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation). Winners will be honored at the Foundation’s annual awards and fundraising gala on March 11, 2019 in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C.


“Year after year the Foundation honors individuals and programs who have dedicated their life to the credit union movement,’” said Gigi Hyland, Executive Director at the Foundation. “We encourage you to nominate those deserving of the highest national honors in the movement so they can be honored for the impact they have had on people’s financial lives.”


Nominations need to be made by Friday, August 10, 2018 for the following awards:


  • The Outstanding Individual Achievement Award honors an individual who is dedicated to promoting the credit union philosophy, has created innovative concepts, and provided leadership that has had a significant and lasting impact on the local, regional, national and/or international credit union movement with measured results.
  • The Outstanding Organization/Program Award honors an organization, program or business for their innovative concepts, products, and services that have had a significant impact on the local and/or national and/or international credit union movement with measured results.

New in 2018, the Summer Series is an extended version of the Minnesota Credit Union Network Peer-to-Peer (P2P) education sessions, held regionally throughout the state. Each event will offer a Marketing & Business Development P2P, Compliance or Operations P2P, and a Network Update offering information about current and new initiatives for Minnesota Credit Unions.


Regional Summer Series dates and locations:


Each Summer Series session will follow the schedule below:


  • 9:30-11 a.m. - Marketing & Business Development P2P Session
  • 11:30-1 p.m. - Network Luncheon and Networking
  • 1:30-3 p.m. - Compliance P2P Session

Additional events in the in the North Red River Valley and Lakes & Pines areas will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Committees Announce New Leadership

The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation committees, Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids) and the Foundation Scholarship Council (FSC) have elected new leaders.


“On behalf of the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation I would like to thank all the credit union employees who volunteer their time and talent to the Credit Unions for Kids Committee and Foundation Scholarship Council,” said committee liaison Ben Hering. “The committees help drive the Foundation’s mission of providing resources for credit unions and communities to prosper and thrive.”


The Minnesota chapter of Credit Unions for Kids raises funds for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, a Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Minnesota CU4Kids has raised over $3 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1997.


The CU4Kids committee is pleased to announce Mick Olson, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for TopLine Federal Credit Union, will be joining Kim Peterson, Digital Marketing and Web Specialist for SouthPoint Financial Credit union, as Co-Chair.


The FSC strives to build credit union brand awareness and strengthen member relationships through its scholarship program. The FSC annual scholarship program is made possible through its annual silent auction.  Since 1997, the FSC has reviewed 14,905 applications and awarded $176,500 in scholarships to 315 credit union members.


With approval from the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors, FSC has updated its executive committee structure from a Chair and Vice Chair to Co-Chair leadership. The FSC is pleased to announce Vicki Roscoe Erickson, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications for TopLine Federal Credit Union, and Amanda Kissner, Director of Community Affairs for Wakota Federal Credit Union, as the new Co-Chairs of the committee.
