MnCUN Presents WINcentive Success at Emergency Savings Innovation Challenge

Last week, MnCUN Director of Advocacy Ryan Smith visited the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston to speak about the success of the association’s prize-linked savings program, WINcentive Savings. The interactive discussion was held during the Emergency Savings Innovation Challenge hosted by the Federal Reserve and Commonwealth.


Commonwealth, a partner of MnCUN, is conducting a three-year research project to review and analyze the WINcentive Savings product in Minnesota.


Findings from the first year of the program include:


  • 81% of WINcentive account holders said WINcentive makes them more excited about their credit union
  • 61% of participants said that building their savings would make them more likely to use other financial products at their credit union.
  • 15% of WINcentive users joined their credit union for the WINcentive account
  • Accountholders are increasing their savings: the average account balance in January 2016 was $180, in December of that year the average grew to $709
  • 98% of WINcentive accounts rolled over between 2016 and 2017

In addition to managing WINcentive Savings, MnCUN administers the New York Credit Union Association’s (NYCUA) prize-linked savings program, Lucky Savers. MnCUN uses Minnesota Item Processing Corporation (MnIPC), its wholly-owned, for-profit subsidiary, to run proprietary software and administer the technology needs for WINcentive Savings.

Promote Minnesota Credit Unions at the St. Paul Saints Game – Discounted Tickets Available!

As an element of the ongoing Awareness Campaign, the Minnesota Credit Union Network is happy to announce a celebration of Minnesota Credit Unions at the upcoming Saint Paul Saints Game, Thursday, July 27 at 7:05 p.m. at CHS Field in St. Paul.

A limited number of discounted tickets are available for credit unions to purchase for their staff, volunteers or members at $15 per ticket. Discounted tickets can be ordered online through the Network. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis, and must be ordered no later than July 10. Additional tickets can be purchased directly from the Saint Paul Saints website.

The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a free Minnesota Credit Union/Saints branded piggy bank. Additional credit union themed activities and promotions are planned including an Awareness campaign video and signage.
