2017 Credit Union Day at the Capitol to be split in to four regional events

The Minnesota Credit Union Network’s annual Credit Union Day at the Capitol event provides crucial information about state political issues relevant to credit unions and offers the opportunity to build relationships with the state’s elected officials. Next year, MnCUN will be hosting four separate Credit Union Days based on geographic region.

The 2017 Credit Union Days at the Capitol are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 25 - Arrowhead and Lakes & Pines Chapters
  • Thursday, Jan. 26 - Central & North Red River Valley Chapters
  • Tuesday, Jan. 31 - Archer Doig Chapter
  • Wednesday, Feb. 1 - Hiawatha and Southwestern Chapters

Each Credit Union Day will include a legislative briefing and lunch at the Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge followed by attendee meetings with their legislators at the Minnesota State Capitol.

“The Minnesota Credit Union Network strives to make our major events as valuable to our members as possible,” said MnCUN Vice President – Governmental Affairs Mara Humphrey. “By holding regional Credit Union Days at the Capitol in 2017, we hope to provide more advocates with the ability to have constructive meetings with legislators on behalf of Minnesota’s credit unions.”

A map of Minnesota’s credit union chapters is available on the Chapters page of the MnCUN website.

Registration for the 2017 Credit Union Days at the Capitol will be made available soon. With questions, contact MnCUN Director of Advocacy Ryan Smith by email or by phone at (651) 288-5533.

$10,000 in Scholarships Available for Your Members

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017 Family Involvement Council (FIC) scholarship program. This year, the council will be awarding $10,000 in the form of four $1,000 and 12 $500 scholarships to a total of 16 credit union members.  Any member of a Minnesota Credit Union Network affiliated credit union pursuing post-secondary education in the fall 2017/spring 2018 is eligible to apply.

Applications are being accepted online with a submission deadline of Feb. 1, 2017.

Each year at the MnCUN Annual Meeting, the FIC holds a silent auction with items and monetary donations donated by Minnesota’s credit unions and businesses. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the silent auction go toward the scholarship programs.

The FIC has various materials available to help credit unions promote the 2017 scholarship program to members. Visit the scholarships section for marketing materials and best practices to promote the program.

The FIC, a committee of the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation, strives to build credit union brand awareness and strengthen member relationships through their scholarship program. Since its inauguration in 1997, the FIC has benefited 303 credit union members with $166,500 in scholarships.

With questions about the FIC scholarship program, contact any of the FIC committee members.

Financial Education Grant Application Deadline Tomorrow

The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation – with the mission of providing resources for credit unions and communities to prosper and thrive – has a strong commitment to financial education. The Foundation is offering $25,000 in grants to assist Minnesota credit unions in implementing financial education projects.

The grant application period will close tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 30.

Minnesota credit unions may partner with non-credit union organizations for grant funding, so long as the project demonstrates a positive impact on a credit union’s community. Applications will be evaluated on a variety of factors, including credit union value, community impact, collaboration, creativity, and receipt of previous funding.

Grants will be evaluated by the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors, and recipients will be announced by October 10.
