Together We are Stronger!

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, the entire MnCUN staff would like to thank each and every member for supporting the credit union system. We truly value the important work you do every day for your members, which inspires us to advocate on behalf of your credit union to make that job easier. As recent news events have thrust separation and differences into the spotlight – we are thankful to belong to a movement that works for good, and thrives on cooperation.

We are also grateful and humbled by the kind words we have recently received from several members about the value of being a member of the Minnesota Credit Union Network….

“At Hiway Federal Credit Union, we really value the educational opportunities that the Network provides. The Annual Meeting has become an exceptional event, with excellent speakers and educational topics, great networking, and a very well-attended exhibit hall. The event is an outstanding resource for our senior managers, directors, and staff members.

The Network does an excellent job in advocating for credit unions in Minnesota. The whole MnCUN team has an extensive grasp of the issues, they can see well ahead when potential legislation may have some negative implications for credit unions, and they have the skills and relationships to take appropriate action on behalf the state’s credit unions and our members.”

Dave Boden, President/CEO, Hiway Federal Credit Union

“MnCUN has been an exceptional resource for my Small Credit Union in the areas of compliance, education, and professional development. I truly feel that MnCUN has formed a partnership with our Credit Union. MnCUN offers many opportunities to network and learn from other professionals in our industry. Whether it’s attending the Annual Meeting, socializing at a Crew event, or attending a webinar, the wealth of knowledge I obtain is worth being a member at the Network.”

Susan Loesch, Manager/CEO, Energy Services Federal Credit Union

“Without question, MnCUN has become an extension of our credit union, providing real value and affordable solutions. MnCUN is a premier trade association that is the voice of all Minnesota credit unions, providing invaluable legislative, regulatory, media and consumer advocacy. Without the Network, our credit union would not be able to provide such advocacy and I would not have an effective way to network with my peers which is a valuable component of any MnCUN event.”

Mary Matheson, President/CEO, Wakota Federal Credit Union

“At Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union, we see MnCUN as a trusted and essential partner. Their political, regulatory and educational leadership serves us well today and paves the way for a brighter future tomorrow. The Network staff is consistently professional, knowledgeable, dedicated and friendly. We utilize many services to include MnIPC and Co-op Shared Branching, plus audit and strategic planning consulting services. Along with CUNA, MnCUN helps to wisely protect and lead the credit union movement.”

Nick Meyer, President/CEO, Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union

Thank you all for your continued support of the Network, and Happy Thanksgiving. Together we are stronger!

Connected to Minnesota: Credit Unions Support 2017 Cooperative Awareness Initiative

MnCUN is planning a public awareness campaign that will connect the deeds and investments of credit unions to the communities they serve – and educate Millennials and other Minnesota consumers of the credit union difference. The campaign will be a statewide, cooperative effort, designed to complement credit union marketing and educate consumers about credit unions. The goal is to move the needle on credit union reputation and awareness in an effort to increase market share.

MnCUN is currently seeking pledges of financial support to cooperatively fund this Awareness effort. We ask that you submit your pledge form by Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016. Thank you to the following credit unions that have already pledged to support this effort:

Financial & Audit Professionals Grant Application Closing Nov. 30

With the support of a generous contribution from Rich Gabrielson, certified public accountant (CPA), the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation (MnCUF) established the Financial & Audit Professionals Grant Fund in late 2014. Gabrielson retired from CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP at the end of 2013, after working with Minnesota credit union supervisory committees, boards of directors and management throughout his 36-year career.

Funding from the Financial & Audit Professionals Grant program is intended to cover or defray the costs for credit union professionals and/or volunteers to attend timely and accurate educational events, conferences and seminars on financial and audit-related topics.

Financial & Audit Professionals Grant applications will close on Wednesday, Nov. 30. More information and a grant application can be found online. With questions, contact MnCUF Executive Director Lyndsay Miller by email or by phone at (651) 288-55517.
