Melvin Tennant, CEO of Meet Minneapolis, to Keynote Marketing Awards Celebration

Join marketers and business development professionals for the Minnesota Credit Union Network Marketing Awards Luncheon at Pinstripes in Edina from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4.


The event will feature keynote speaker Melvin Tennant, CAE, president and chief executive officer of Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association, and executive director of Sports Minneapolis. Tennant and his team worked closely with the Minnesota Vikings and other organizations as a member of the Minnesota Super Bowl LII Bid Committee to secure the National Football League’s Super Bowl LII for Minnesota. He and his team worked with the University of Minnesota and other local leaders to secure the 2019 National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Men’s Final Four basketball championship only a few months later. Tennant will share how Meet Minneapolis has branded and positioned Minneapolis to competes against larger, well known cities.  


New in 2017, the Minnesota Credit Union Network has introduced a statewide credit union marketing awards program. The awards will recognize outstanding programs in the areas of branding, community impact and outreach, digital advertising, video, and complete campaigns. Winners of the Awards will be announced at the luncheon.


All are welcome to attend. Event registration is available online.


The cost to attend this event is $30 and includes lunch. The deadline to register is Thursday, Dec. 28.



CUNA Offering Small Credit Union GAC Scholarship Contest

Small credit unions will have the opportunity to win one of two full scholarships to the 2018 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) Feb. 25 through March 1, 2018 in Washington, D.C., through a contest sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group.


Open to CUNA members below $100 million in assets, participants can earn entries into the drawings for scholarships by participating in the CUNA Small Credit Union Community, an online networking and small credit union resource platform. Scholarships include airfare, lodging up to four nights, registration and incidentals.


To receive an entry into the drawings, a user must:


  • Access the Small Credit Union Community, click the “Communities” tab, and locate the Small Credit Union Community.
  • Sign up for a “Daily Digest” or “Real Time” email subscription to the Small Credit Union Community; and
  • Post at least one question or response in the Discussion. Additional posts will earn additional entries.

The contest is now open and will run through Jan. 19, 2018. Winners will be drawn and announced on the Community on Jan. 29, 2018. Winners will also be recognized at the CUNA Small Credit Union Roundtable at GAC, set for 1 to 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Feb. 25. Full contest rules can also be found on the Community.

New Directors Roundtable Scheduled for Jan. 23

The Minnesota Credit Union Network is pleased to invite credit union Directors to a roundtable discussion on the topic of Board Governance. The event will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Hiway Federal Credit Union, 840 Westminster Street, St. Paul, MN 55130.

Kris Jacobsen, MnCUN’s Business Development Director, Marcia Lewis of the MN Dept. of Commerce, and Justin Burleson of the NCUA will share best practices and recommendations. In addition, attendees will have time to participate in an open discussion to network, share experiences, and learn from each other. Light refreshments will be served.

2017 Minn. CU4Kids donations due Dec. 28

The 2017 fundraising year for Minnesota Credit Unions for Kids (CU4Kids) is quickly coming to a close. All donations raised throughout the year must be received by the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation by Thursday, December 28. These funds will then be forwarded to Gillette to meet the year-end deadline.


Send in your contributions today to help MnCU4Kids reach its goal of raising $200,000 in 2017. When sending in donations, be sure to include the MnCU4Kids Reporting Form. Please forward all funds to:
