Earlier today, the Minnesota Credit Union Network sent a GREAT alert urging advocates to contact Senators Klobuchar and Smith ahead of consideration of the GENIUS Act.
When the Senate returns to Washington next week, it will begin consideration of the GENIUS Act, which would establish a federal regulatory framework for issuing stablecoins. While this is significant in itself, the GENIUS Act is also the first Senate Banking Committee bill to reach the floor in eight years, making it a prime vehicle for a wide range of financial services amendments. One such amendment that could be especially damaging to Minnesota credit unions is Sen. Marshall’s Credit Card Competition Act—often referred to as the Big Box Bailout. This proposal would impose harmful, government-mandated routing restrictions, effectively acting as back-door price controls on interchange fees. We believe it is vital that Minnesota credit unions speak up now. Your Senators need to hear directly from you about how these proposed changes would hurt your operations, and more importantly, your members, who are among the 142 million Americans credit unions serve nationwide. Credit unions across Minnesota are invited to participate in the inaugural Minnesota Cooperative Summit: Cooperatively Building a Better World, taking place July 29–30, 2025, at the University of Minnesota Morris. This landmark event celebrates the International Year of Cooperatives and offers a unique opportunity for credit unions to engage with the broader cooperative community.
Why Credit Unions Should Attend As a proud sponsor, the Minnesota Credit Union Network underscores the importance of this summit in fostering collaboration and innovation among cooperatives. Event highlights include:

The online request form was completed, but we also reached out to MnCUN directly since the timeline was tight and there weren’t any current distributers in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Jeremy from Broken Clock Brewing Co-Op presented two options: personally driving up our order OR helping get a local distributer. In a matter of days both were accomplished!
Jeremy personally delivered 10 cases to our Annual Meeting location and made deliveries to a local distribution partner. So, when delighted members received their can and asked where they could get more, we were able to tell them Westside Liquors! This celebration was a win for our members, a local business, and the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation! Cheers!” -Submitted by Miranda Anderson, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Marketing Want to bring High Yield Pale Ale to Your Community? CFPB Overdraft Case Dismissed: The lawsuit challenging the CFPB’s final overdraft rule has officially been dismissed. The Minnesota Credit Union Network, 17 other leagues and America's Credit Unions joined together earlier this year to file an amicus brief in support of the case. Thank Congress for Preserving the Credit Union Tax Status: Thanks to the thousands of credit union advocates in Minnesota and across the country, the House Ways and Means Committee did not alter the tax status of credit unions in its draft tax reform legislation. We’re thrilled to announce that registration is now open for the second annual Tristate Collaborative Leadership Conference, bringing together credit union professionals from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Montana for two days of inspiration, learning, and connection.
Last year’s inaugural event was a hit—this year promises even more! Join us for a robust agenda focused on leadership, innovation, and collaboration in the credit union movement. 2025 Agenda Highlights Include:
Date: Aug 05 1:00 PM - Aug 06, 2025 3:45 PM Location: JW Mariott Mall of America 2141 Lindau Lane Bloomington, MN 55425 Cost: $449 | Early Bird - July 7 $499 | Regular - Registration deadline: July 29 Whether you’re leading a team, mentoring the next generation, or just beginning your journey, this conference will spark new ideas and empower your growth. We can’t wait to see you in August as we continue to build a collaborative credit union leadership community across our three great states. A century ago, Minnesotans came together with a bold idea: what if financial institutions were built not for profit, but for people and started our first credit union. That idea has stood the test of time—and here we are, stronger than ever, still rooted in cooperation, still growing, still serving. As we mark this occasion, we invite credit unions to gather, share and celebrate Minnesota’s credit union history. The 100th anniversary of the first state-chartered credit union in Minnesota is an opportunity to demonstrate our bold, community-focused spirit to members and non-member alike. Join us! The Minnesota Credit Union Network is pleased to offer resources and opportunities to engage in the celebration all year long:
