Join the Celebration! 100 Years of Minnesota Credit Unions

12/18/2024

In 2025, Minnesota Credit Unions will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first state-chartered credit union in Minnesota. The first credit union in Minnesota was organized for Minneapolis postal employees in the spring of 1925 with $146.25 in assets. Today there are over 2.2 million credit union members in Minnesota representing $41.8 billion in assets. Together, we've built a legacy of trust and opportunity.

Throughout 2025, we will gather, share and celebrate Minnesota’s credit union history. We will actively collaborate with lawmakers. We will advocate for our communities. We will welcome new members. And we will honor the people — the members, the volunteers, the employees — who have made this journey possible.

Join us in the celebration!
  • Share Your CU History: In partnership with the America's Credit Union Museum, we invite you to be part of a project showcasing individual credit unions' unique histories through a digital collection. This initiative allows every credit union to contribute its distinctive story.
  • Share the 100th Anniversary Logo: Credit unions are encouraged to leverage the anniversary logos in their own marketing and member communications.
  • Engage on Social Media: Starting in January, credit unions are encouraged to share stories, memories and milestones from your own credit union history using #100YearsofCUImpact.

Watch for more celebration opportunities throughout 2025! We'll be sharing our story with lawmakers to protect our unique cooperative business model and move legislative priorities, along with driving membership growth by expanding efforts to increase consumer awareness of the credit union advantage. Your support and participation will help us leverage this special milestone as we partner to create an environment that allows all credit unions to thrive for the next hundred years.
