![]() At the Women's Leadership Network annual celebration event last week, Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) Board Chair presented Deb Almirall with the Credit Union Builder Award on behalf of the Board, staff, and members of Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union. This prestigious award, established by the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation, acknowledges individuals who have significantly contributed to the success of their credit unions and the broader credit union movement. Deb transitioned from banking to becoming a passionate advocate for credit unions in 2013 when she took on the role of CEO at Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union. Under her leadership, the credit union’s assets grew impressively from $85 million to over $150 million today. Her efforts have earned her recognition from peers across the industry, including being named one of the top women in finance by Finance and Commerce in 2017 and receiving the Outstanding Business Professional of the Year award from the Minnesota Credit Union Network in 2018. Beyond her professional achievements, Deb has been a dedicated mentor to many throughout her career, providing guidance and support to numerous individuals. Her commitment to service extends to her involvement with various nonprofit boards and committees, including the United Way, Rotary Club, Junior Achievement, and Girl Scouts. In the credit union community, she has actively participated in the Minnesota Credit Union Network Board, the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis Community Depository Institution Advisory Committee, the MNCUN Political Involvement Committee, and many others. "One of Deb’s most impactful contributions has been as a founding member, ambassador, and past chair of the Women’s Leadership Network. Through her efforts, she has helped create an inspiring support structure for women in our industry," said MnCUF President Mara Humphrey. In addition to the CU Builder, Deb Almirall was honored with a framed painting of Minnesota’s state flower, the lady slipper. This unique print is part of a special state flower collection displayed at the Credit Union House on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Its rarity symbolizes the invaluable perspective, insight, and wisdom Deb has brought to the Minnesota Credit Union Network Board. The MnCUN Board also passed an official Proclamation of Appreciation in recognition of her dedicated service to Minnesota’s credit unions. Created in 2008, the Credit Union Builder Award honors an individual’s dedication to the success, growth, and vitality of the not-for-profit financial movement in Minnesota. Dedications are typically made at a time of significance to acknowledge an individual’s contributions to credit unions. The names of the recipients and the contributing credit unions are permanently displayed in the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s lobby as a tribute to those who have dedicated time and energy to building the credit union movement.
