Minnesota Credit Union Network Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Credit unions began as a social movement to advance economic equality and financial inclusion, particularly for marginalized communities. In light of recent events, the Minnesota Credit Union Network is revitalizing this mission to bring our movement together as a force for change.
We believe our values and the credit union model position us to be an active participant in developing solutions to current disparities.
We believe as a movement we must recognize that systemic racism and injustices exist, and will not go away overnight. A long term commitment to change will be required from many, and multiple obstacles and issues addressed.
We believe credit unions exist to serve people – all people, no matter race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, gender expression, citizen status, or financial capability.
We believe in working together - grassroots organizing, volunteering, sharing acts of kindness, helping members through economic struggles – is vitally important and great examples of how credit unions can be a force for good in the world.
We believe in open and thoughtful conversations - with our staff, our credit unions, our fellow League colleagues, our communities - as we work to build a long-term response to difficult challenges.
We believe diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to a vibrant, relevant, and growing credit union movement.
We commit to cooperatively leverage our unique business model to serve all people, and instigate real and positive change in our communities. We stand for financial democracy.
We commit ourselves to listen, learn, and advocate - fostering an environment where an open and ongoing dialogue can take place.
We commit to connecting community leaders to credit union professionals to help address the true needs of marginalized Minnesotans. We commit to being intentional and strategic to usher in meaningful and long term change.
