CUNA Updates MLA Card Fee Spreadsheet for Q4 2021: CUNA updated its Military Lending Act (MLA) credit card fee spreadsheet for the third quarter of 2020.
Dollars contributed to CULAC (CUNA’s PAC for federal candidates) and CUPAC (MnCUN’s PAC for state candidates) ensure that credit union champions are elected to all levels of elected office.
Raising money for the PAC’s has been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, as holding in-person fundraising events was severely limited. This has lead to some creative new ways to raise money, including the first ever Border Battle competition with Wisconsin credit unions to raise CULAC dollars. These efforts in 2021 ultimately proved very successful as MnCUN was able to raise over $100,000 combined for our state and federal PAC’s. “Despite the ongoing impacts that the pandemic had on our PAC fundraising efforts, Minnesota credit union staff and board members have stepped up in a huge way,” MnCUN Chief Advocacy and Engagement Officer Mara Humphrey said. “Its incredible to see the recognition by our members of the importance of supporting credit union champions running for office at the state and federal levels and we want to thank them for their continued investment.” MnCUN’s Political Involvement Committee recently set the Fair Share goal at $30 per credit union employee. As a reminder, the Fair Share program is a dollar amount per employee for credit unions to strive towards raising to support both PAC’s. A total of 15 credit unions met their Fair Share goal in 2021. Contributions to CUPAC and CULAC are not tax-deductible for state or federal income tax purposes. Contributions are strictly voluntary, and you have the right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. You have the right to contribute more or less than the suggested contribution amount. State and federal election laws require the Minnesota Credit Union Network to report the date and amount of contributions, name, address, occupation and employer name for individuals who contribute more than $20 to CULAC or more than $100 to CUPAC in a calendar year. In lieu of an in-person event, Impact Day 22 will include a virtual legislative program on Wed., Feb. 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The session will touch on issues we’ll be working on at the Capitol and public affairs updates. MnCUN staff will also schedule virtual meetings with leaders from both bodies, and are coordinating grassroots activities to connect with state legislators.
The event is free, but we ask that you please register. Contact MnCUN Director of Government Affairs, Ryan Smith, at any time with questions. The BSA Officer & Compliance P2P will feature a presentation on BSA topics from Becky Frederick, Audit & Compliance Consultant with the Minnesota Credit Union Network.
The session will continue into an open format conversation with credit union peers around credit compliance. This event is meant to be an opportunity to meet and share with one another. The open session and forum will conclude the event with time to discuss BSA and compliance questions with participants. Join the upcoming BSA Officer & Compliance Peer-to-Peer (P2P) on Tuesday, March 8 starting at 2:00 p.m. via webinar and video conference. This event will be made only via webinar/conference call. Webinar and call in instructions, along with recordings, session materials and resources, will be provided to registered attendees. Stay tuned for further announcements and updates! For a list of all P2P sessions, visit our Peer-to-Peer (P2P) webpage. With questions, please contact MnCUN Director of Engagement Ben Hering by email or by phone at 651-288-5519.
