The National Credit Union Foundation has $173,000 in available funding for credit unions of any asset size that have a desire to build programs designed to support children in foster care by establishing basic knowledge in budgeting, credit, and banking solutions.
Eligible credit unions will have the ability to open savings and checking accounts for this demographic while also providing timely financial education and well-being information for youth in preparation for aging out of the foster care system. ![]() The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation (MnCUF) and Farm Credit Employees Federal Credit Union are proud to recognize Brian Lueth with a Credit Union Builder Award. Brian retired after 39 years of serving as President/CEO/Vice President of Farm Credit Employees Federal Credit Union. Brian has dedicated his career to serving the employees and families within the AgriBank district, and during his tenure, assets of the credit union grew from about $600,000 to over $18 million today. Created in 2008, the Credit Union Builder Award honors an individual’s dedication to the success, growth, and vitality of the not-for-profit financial movement in Minnesota. Dedications are typically made at a time of significance to acknowledge an individual’s contributions to credit unions. There are nearly 100 individuals that have been designated as Credit Union Builders since the award's inception. The names of the recipients and the contributing credit unions are permanently displayed in the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s lobby as a tribute to those who have dedicated time and energy to building the credit union movement. The Minnesota Credit Union Foundation held its Annual Meeting on July 11, 2024.
Board Chair Doug Ralston, of Centricity Credit Union, reported on the efforts of the Foundation in 2023. Focused on financial education and professional development initiatives, the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation provides the resources for credit unions and communities to prosper and thrive. The Foundation’s efforts focus on Financial Education for members and communities, Professional Development for credit union employees, and Disaster Relief for the wider credit union community. In addition, the Foundation implemented a new Grant Management software program and updated the professional development grant application process to create efficiencies and further awareness of grant programs. The Board Election was held. Doug Ralston, Centricity CU, Caitlin Brama, Farm Credit Employees CU, and Sue Palen, Mayo Employees FCU were each elected to serve three-year terms. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, the Foundation is dependent on the support of Minnesota credit unions, employees, partners, and community organizations. Dave served on the Minnesota Credit Union (MnCUN) Board of Directors, concluding his term as chair in April 2024, and was recognized as MnCUN's Outstanding Professional of the Year in 2022. MnCUF’s Financial Inclusion Grant is intended to support credit unions’ implementation of projects that support Financial Inclusion efforts at their credit union. The application period is open so that credit unions may apply for funding at any time throughout the year. The Foundation Board will act on applications at their regularly scheduled Board meetings.

Credit unions can contribute to the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation (MnCUF) by investing in the National Credit Union Foundation’s Community Investment Fund (CIF). Established in 1999, the CIF allows investing credit unions to receive 50 percent of the return, and the remaining 50 percent is split evenly between the MnCUF and the NCUF.
The CIF provides a unique vehicle to support financial education, professional development, community outreach and emergency assistance, not only in Minnesota, but across the country.
