Don't Miss Out: CU Forward Day, Oct. 9
On Monday, October 9, credit unions and partners across Minnesota will once again unite to dedicate one day to giving back and spreading kindness. 

​To celebrate the day, participants are invited to the CU Forward Day After Party, hosted by United Financials Making a Difference (UFMD), at Keg and Case Market in Saint Paul starting at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 9. UFMD and sponsoring credit unions will host food and beverages for all credit union staff and volunteers participating in CU Forward Day. 

This event is free for all CU Forward Day participants and volunteers from participating credit unions. Registration is not required.

We are excited to continue our series of regional events in partnership with Credit Union Chapters throughout Minnesota. MnCUN's new President & CEO Mara Humphrey, along with MnCUN staff, will be traveling around the state to share MnCUN’s vision, gather feedback, and provide updates on current and new initiatives for Minnesota Credit Unions. All credit union employees and directors are welcome to attend. 

Our next stop is Twin Cites Chapter on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at The Machine Shed (8511 Hudson Blvd N, Lake Elmo MN 55402) Cost to attend is $29 and includes dinner. Registration deadline is Friday, October 20th

4 Minnesota Credit Union Employees Named Credit Union Rock Stars

The Minnesota Credit Union Network congratulates the four credit union professionals from Minnesota have been named 2023 Credit Union Rock Stars by the editorial team of Credit Union Magazine:

​The Credit Union Rock Stars program recognizes outstanding credit union professionals and directors from a wide range of disciplines who innovate and inspire to advance the missions of their credit unions. This year’s winners were selected for their exceptional creativity, innovation, and passion. 

​Finance & Commerce Announces the 2023 honorees for Top Women in Finance

​Each year Finance & Commerce honors the Top Women in Finance in Minnesota. This year’s class includes three credit union professionals Dana Garrett, North Memorial Federal Credit Union and Lisa Lehman, SPIRE Credit Union and Becky Seavey, Mayo Employees Federal Credit Union.

The 31 women will be honored at a networking and awards event on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Quincy Hall, 1325 Quincy St. NE in Minneapolis.

NCUA Financial Innovation Rule: On September 21, the NCUA issued a bulletin for its final rule on Financial Innovation intended to provide federally insured credit unions more freedom to take advantage of advanced technologies and opportunities offered by Fintech. 

Business Ownership Interest (BOI) Reporting Exemption for Credit Unions: FinCEN’s new BOI rule effective January 1, 2024, exempts federally insured credit unions from reporting requirements pursuant to 12 U.S.C. 1752 in its new Small Entity Compliance Guide. 

NCUA Update to Simplified CECL Tool: On September 25, the NCUA released its updated simplified CECL tool with the latest weighted average remaining maturity, factors and other enhancements for reporting effective January 1, 2023.

Join the upcoming Women's Leadership Network Peer-to-Peer (P2P) on October 5 starting at 1:00 p.m. via webinar and video conference. 

We are pleased to be welcoming Eleni Giakoumopoulos, Director of the Global Women’s Leadership Network for the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions. Eleni will provide an update on the International Credit Union movement and the impact of the Global Women’s Leadership Network.

In her role with GWLN since 2018, Eleni is responsible for directing the professional development programming, expanding GWLN Sister Societies, and growing membership in the U.S. and internationally. She has over 25 years of international experience working in 20 countries in western, central and eastern Europe. She is a member of the International Society of Female Professionals and the International Association of Business Communicators.

Partner with TruLync Medicare Services for 2024

This fall, TruLync Medicare Services is working with 6 credit unions during Medicare Open Enrollment to help their members sign up for Medicare.

Medicare can be an overwhelming and confusing process. And with 20% of credit union members aged 65 or older, we are excited about this opportunity to provide trusted guidance through this new program.

Minn. CU Leaders Convene for LEAD 23 in Brainerd

Nearly 150 credit union professionals and board members attended LEAD 23 at Madden's on Gull Lake in Brainerd last week. General and Breakout Sessions featured industry experts providing insight and relevant information on top credit union issues. Sessions throughout the event were designed for both credit union professionals and Board members. 

​Speakers included:
  • Cindra Kamphoff, Beyond Grit: Powerful Practices to Gain the High Performing Edge 
  • Daniel Shannon, Employee Engagement 
  • Stephen Nelson, Credit Union of Tomorrow: Utopian Dream or Dystopian Nightmare?
  • Jack Stahlmann, The Intangible It
  • Jeff Rendel, A Dashboard for Strategic Governance 

Additionally, the 2022-2023 Trailblazer Executive Readiness cohort presented their credit union case studies while the new cohort kicked off the 12-month program.  MnCUN’s Trailblazers Executive Readiness Training program is designed to accelerate executive level leadership skills and build credit union specific knowledge needed to succeed in our industry.
