MnCUN Celebrates Mid-Year Accomplishments

​​As your state trade association, the Minnesota Credit Union Network works to ensure the success, growth and vitality of our member credit unions by creating a positive public environment through leadership, political advocacy, education, awareness and regulatory assistance. 

​​​We value our members’ continued trust in us, and we appreciate the opportunity to be able to serve credit unions throughout the state. We are pleased to share our efforts on behalf of credits unions for the first half of 2022.

Advocate

• 18.45 million ad impressions the first and second quarters of 2022, delivered in through OTT Streaming Ads, Banner and Video Pre-roll, and out of home transit ads, resulting in 21,000 visits to yourmoneyfurther.com.
• Posted 73 stories to the Credit Union News Channel and influenced 110 earned media mentions.
• Conducted biennial consumer research study finding 41% of non-credit union customers say they are likely to join a credit union in the future, up from 35% in 2019; Minnesotans overwhelmingly support credit unions maintaining their tax-exempt status; and credit unions continue to be thought of more as a positive force in the community than banks.
• Tracked 100 bills in the 2021-22 biennium.
• Introduced and passed a bill to move the funds paid by non-depository financial institutions into the Department of Commerce’s special revenue fund, alongside banks and credit unions.
• Prevented the community banks’ bill that would have created a study group to look at the “issue” of credit unions acquiring bank assets from moving forward in the legislative process.
• Offered testimony or written comments on a variety of issues at the Capitol, including bills on property assessed clean energy (PACE), a first generation down payment assistance program, financial literacy requirements for high school graduation and several others.
• Added more than 20 Grassroots Coordinators to assist in the MnCUN’s grassroots advocacy work.
• Worked with CUNA and other state leagues to pass the Credit Union Governance Modernization Act in Congress. This bill was modeled on legislation we passed in Minnesota in 2018.
• Responded to 228 compliance and legal questions.
• Submitted four comment letters on proposed regulatory changes.

Collaborate

• ​Offered 130 education sessions and webinars including: major events Impact 22, GAC, Accelerate 22 and CEO Conference.
• Assisted Minnesota credit union chapters to resume chapter meetings and events.
• Continued hosting virtual events for the CREW and Women’s Leadership Network.
• Offered the Data Education Program for the second year in partnership with the Wisconsin Credit Union League; certifying twenty credit union staff as data transformation specialists.
• Leveraged a working group of credit union leaders to assist the chartering process for a new credit union in Minneapolis, in partnership with the Association for Black Economic Power, and have helped raise over $850,000 in capital along with nearly $4 million in pledged deposits from credit unions.
• Utilized the MnCUN mobile app for major events and P2P groups, growing users by over 28% in 2022.
• Added two more credit unions to the Association Health Care Plan and expanded to allow CUSOs to participate.

Accelerate

• Launched the Network’s data roadmap and strategy.
• WINcentive – Minnesota program reached over $12 million saved milestone; over $75 million saved in TruLync managed PLS programs across the country.
• Provided credit unions an opportunity to discuss credit union opportunities in digital assets and block chain technology with NCUA Vice-Chairman Kyle Hauptman.
• Entered into formal Tri-State Collaboration agreement with Wisconsin and Montana and implemented a formal marketing program to deliver products to multiple states effectively and efficiently.
• Identified and launched multiple new product opportunities to Minnesota credit unions.
